What this document records
No sons
THE WILL NAMES NO SON, AND THAT IS THE ENTRY'S PRINCIPAL FINDING. Everything runs to his wife, his daughter Susan M. Cooper, and Agness Vail. ⇒ this branch carries no Y-line forward. What that closes off across the Daniel-Sr descendant tree is argued on the person files, not here.
The wifes name
A NAME CONFLICT RESOLVED BY THE DOCUMENT. The will names his wife Sarah, called Sally — a Manning — settling a disagreement carried by [L.71].
Three generations of manning women
THE WILL PROVIDES AN ANNUITY TO "Sarah Manning Sr" — the testator's MOTHER-IN-LAW, ALIVE IN 1824. That puts three generations in one instrument: Sarah Manning Sr, her daughter Sarah/Sally (the testator's wife), and granddaughter Susan M. Cooper. A living mother-in-law named in a son-in-law's will is an unusually direct attestation of an in-law line.
Isaac vail
Isaac Vail predeceased the testator — inferable from how the will and probate treat Agness Vail. ⇒ his death falls between August 1824 and October 1826.
Susans age
A contingency clause for Susan M. Cooper under 18 narrows her birth to roughly 1807–1818. Derived from the clause, not stated.
A date error elsewhere
AN ANCESTRY INDEX DATE FOR THIS WILL IS WRONG, and the register settles it: made 10 August 1824, proved 4 October 1826 before Surrogate J. W. Frelinghuysen.
