What this document records

Why it is its own entry

It came out of the same Vol. 33 sweep as [A.83] and was split off because the 1764 will bears directly on the Cooper-Ludlow branch — Catherine (Cooper) Ludlow, Lt Col Cornelius Ludlow, John Ludlow.

What the 1764 will attests

THE WILL NAMES BOTH HOPS OF A CHAIN THE CATALOG HELD ONLY AT PUBLISHED-GENEALOGY TIER. Executor "son, Cornelius", and among the grandchildren "John Ludlow, son of my son, Cornelius." ⇒ Jeremiah → Cornelius → John, in a probate abstract. And it is internally consistent: John, born 1752, would be twelve in 1764, which fits the "when they are 21" minority clause. The testator's death year 1764 and his wife Elizabeth both match the catalog's record. The catalog's identification of these three with Catherine (Cooper) Ludlow/Lt Col Cornelius Ludlow/John Ludlow is argued on those files, not here — the abstract names no Cooper at all.

What it does not say

It does not name Cornelius's wife. Catherine (Cooper) Ludlow Catherine (Cooper) Ludlow is absent — consistent with her having died before 1764, which Lt Col Cornelius Ludlow brackets to between late 1752 and about 1773, but the will is silent, not evidential. This is a Ludlow-side source. It is not a Cooper-marriage source and should not be cited as one.

The two wills share a child roster

The 1768 Elizabeth-Borough will's children — Samuel, Temperance, Deborah, Wilk, Daniel (+ Joseph, Mercy, Jeremiah, Mary) — match the 1764 will's "grandchildren … being children of my son, Jeremiah" name for name: Samuel, Temperance, Deborah, Wilkey, Daniel. Neither document states the link, and the surname is spelled differently (Ludlam vs Ludlow). Recorded as the roster observation it is; the inference belongs on a person file.

The appraisers are cooper network

Jacob Carl and Richard Runyon appraised the 1764 inventory. A Jacob Carl of Morris is the testator of a 1769 will witnessed by Daniel Cooper Jr ([A.83]), and a Richard Runyon is among Providence Runyon's sons in her 1759 will ([A.77]). Whether either is the same man is not stated by any of these documents. Noted as a network observation; no identification asserted.

Transcription and notes

Provenance, what the 1764 will attests about the Jeremiah → Cornelius → John chain, what it pointedly does NOT say, the shared child roster between the two wills, and the Cooper-network appraisers are all in the source: and coverage: headers and are not repeated here.
