Why this certificate matters

[J.232], [p.1945] Levi H. Cooper's 1909 death notice, says he died "at her home Southeast of Stafford" — the home of his daughter Mrs. John Field — and names her no further.

[D.587]'s 1870 Illinois sheet, read on 2026-09-05, gives Levi a daughter Carrie, 5, born New Jersey (so b. ~1865), who is absent from the 1880 household.

This certificate names a "Cara Cooper", born New Jersey, married to a John Field, whose daughter was born in Kansas in 1887 and buried at Stafford, Kansas. Every element of the 1870 sheet's Carrie and of the 1909 notice's Mrs. John Field is present in one document.

The identification is a claim and does not live here — it belongs to [p.1945] and [name.541]. The certificate itself says only what is quoted above.

It does NOT name Cara Cooper's father

Which is the thing the whole thread wants. An Illinois death certificate records the decedent's parents, not the decedent's grandparents. Cara/Carrie's own death record would name Levi. The Find A Grave index carries a Carrie Elizabeth Field, 1865–1944, at "Stafford Cemetery, Camden, Georgia" — the same mis-indexed Stafford, Kansas cemetery [J.232] and [J.233] identified.

Next

  1. Carrie Elizabeth (Cooper) Field's own death record, Kansas 1944 — Kansas registration began 1911, and the certificate asks for the decedent's father's name and birthplace. That would name Levi and close [p.1945]'s probable parentage question from the other side.
  2. Her Find A Grave memorial at Stafford Cemetery, Stafford, Kansas.
  3. A Kansas marriage record, John Field × Carrie Cooper, before Oct 1887 — Stafford or Mitchell Co. Marriage returns of that period name the bride's father.
  4. John Field, b. Kentucky — his own records, and the 1900/1910 Stafford Co. censuses of the household.
