Transcription and notes
Kinsey, Martha Jane Humphreys, A Family History (Ancestry "U.S., Family History Books," title 62282_f776f160_0442). Maintainer screenshot 2026-06-26. Sub-ID of [I.167] (same book — that entry covers John Ludlow's 2nd-wife children at book p. 28; this covers his 1st-wife children + the Hurin descent).
Data from the document:
"Susan De Mun Ludlow died at the home of her daughter Ruth (Mrs. James Baxter), in Claremont, Ohio, April 24, 1844. She and her husband, John Ludlow, were originally buried in a family lot, together with some of the name of Cooper (relatives no doubt) near 'Ludlow Station.' Mary Ludlow, John and Susan's daughter, born November 26, 1791, was the first girl baby to be born in Cincinnati. The children of John Ludlow and Catherine Cooper were: I. Sarah Ludlow, m. John Lyon. II. Agnes Ludlow, m. Silas Hurin, son of Seth Hurin. They lived at Lebanon, Ohio. Their son was: 1. James Kemper Hurin, b. March 18, 1814, at Lebanon, Ohio, d. October 9, 1893, m. first, Mary Foster, who died at the birth of their daughter: a. Mary Foster Hurin, m. Stephen Coles, d. in childbirth at the age of 24 years. James Kemper Hurin married secondly, Miss Littell of New Jersey. They had one daughter, but both mother and daughter died when the child was six months old. James Kemper Hurin married thirdly, June 6, 1845, Cynthia Halsey, b. July 16, 1818, d. September 27, 1887. Their children were: b. Alice Hurin, b. July 14, 1846, m. October 14, 1880, Reuben Tyler, d. April 14, 1914. Their children are: 1. Arthur Hurin Tyler, b. August 12, 1883, d. September 2, 1895. 2. Agnes Ruth Tyler, b. April 6, 1886, m. June 22, 1915, William Jesse Baird, Professor in Berea College, Ky. Their children: a. David Halsey Baird, b. January 18, 1917, a student at Yale University, having obtained scholarships for his entire four-year course."
Note (not on the document): - Confirms Agnes Ludlow Hurin [p.884] as a child of John Ludlow [p.53] × his 1st wife Catherine Cooper [p.259], living at Lebanon, Ohio — and that her eldest son Silas + her father John were buried near Ludlow Station "together with some of the name of Cooper" (a notable Cooper-burial datum). - Kinsey details only James Kemper Hurin ("Their son was: 1. James Kemper Hurin") — a selective genealogy tracing the author's line, not a complete child-list (L.4 + [I.131] give Agnes 11 children). Do not read "their son was" as Agnes having one son. - Corroborates [p.979] James Kemper Hurin: b. 18 Mar 1814 Lebanon, d. 9 Oct 1893; 3 marriages (Mary Foster → daughter Mary Foster Hurin m. Stephen Coles; Miss Littell of NJ = [p.983]; Cynthia Halsey, m. 6 June 1845, b. 16 Jul 1818 d. 27 Sep 1887). Extends the line to gen-7/8: Alice Hurin (1846) m. Reuben Tyler → Agnes Ruth Tyler (1886) m. William Jesse Baird (Berea College) → David Halsey Baird (b. 1917, Yale).
