What this document records
Record
One page of senior entries - a two-column grid of ten portraits with a facing column of names, home states, activities and one-line characterisations
Date
1931
Note
Printed page number 59; Ancestry's image 67 of 240. Only the bottom of the page is transcribed - the three entries nearest the Cooper entry - because that is what bears on the catalog.
Reading notes
THE HOME STATE IS WHAT MAKES THIS IDENTIFIABLE. This yearbook prints each senior's state at the right of their name, and Helen Cooper's reads KANSAS. A Helen Cooper at a Tulsa high school is a common enough name; a KANSAS-born Helen Cooper at a Tulsa high school in 1931, aged about 17, is Helen Maurine (Cooper) Redding, who was born in Reno Co., Kansas on 24 January 1914 and had been living in Tulsa since at least January 1920 ([D.814]). WHICH PORTRAIT IS HERS IS A READING, NOT A PRINTED LABEL. The portraits are not individually captioned; the names run down the facing column and the photographs sit in a 2-column grid. Two things agree that she is the BOTTOM-RIGHT portrait: (a) Ancestry's viewer highlights that cell for this index record, and (b) the entries pair row-wise with the grid - the last three entries are Byron (male, Band), Lois Cook (female) and Helen Cooper (female), and the bottom row of the grid is two women with two men immediately above. Recorded as PROBABLE on the person file, not asserted. The index's 'Estimated Age 16 / b. abt 1915' is Ancestry's arithmetic off the yearbook year, not anything printed on the page. She was 17 in 1931.
