JAMES K. HURIN — Dies Suddenly at Waynesville — An Aged Merchant's Death. James K. Hurin, who was for many years a prominent grain merchant and miller of this city, died suddenly Monday evening at the residence of George J. O'Neall near Waynesville, Ohio. The immediate cause of death was peritonitis. He was born near this city in 1813. He entered into the dry goods business at Lebanon, Ohio, when quite a young man… In 1863 he came to this city and engaged in the milling business, his establishment being located on West Sixth street, near the C., H. and D. depot. He retired from active business in 1888, and has been passing the remaining years at his home at Wyoming [Ohio]. Mr. Hurin's mother was a member of the Ludlow family who came to this State in its infancy. … He was a member of the Wyoming Presbyterian Church, and left five children, all of whom are living: Mrs. Reuben Tyler, Mrs. Fay, of Wyoming, and James and Frank, of Chicago, and Silas, of Findlay, Ohio.
Cross-references / notes
- Obituary of [p.979] James Kemper Hurin (d. 9 Oct 1893; FaG/birthplace give 1814, the obit says 1813).
- "Mother … of the Ludlow family who came to this State in its infancy" independently confirms the Ludlow descent — Agnes (Ludlow) Hurin [p.884] (dau of John Ludlow [p.53]) — and that the line migrated to Ohio early. The named children map to the FaG list ([G.243]): Mrs. Reuben Tyler = Alice; Mrs. Fay = Sarah A.; Frank = Frank Wilson; Silas = Silas Everett; "James" = a son James.
