What this document records

What the document is

A recorded deed (clerk's transcript) of about thirty acres in Hardwick Township, Sussex Co., acknowledged in Morris County on 8 June 1822.

The transaction

Samuel Cooper and Elizabeth his wife, of Chester, Morris Co., to John Keen of Hardwick, for $300 (transcript).

The cooper datum

A Samuel Cooper of CHESTER, Morris Co., with a wife ELIZABETH, held land in HARDWICK Township, Sussex, and sold it in June 1822 to John Keen — the man who had bought the adjoining Shotwell tract, bounded "on Samuel Cooper land", in February 1822 ([K.122]).

What this document does not say

It does not say how Samuel Cooper acquired the Hardwick land, and it does not itself identify this tract with the "Samuel Cooper land" of [K.122]. No Israel Cooper is named.
