Data from the document [verbatim] (OCR-transcribed)
Recurring recital in each of the three deeds:
"This Indenture made this third day of January … eighteen hundred and sixty two between W. D. Boswell, Commissioner appointed by the County Court of Fayette County Kentucky on the Petition of Jane E. Cooper widow of Reuben H. Cooper decd, John W. [Cooper], Daniel Cooper and William Cooper, Sally A. Cooper and Stephen L. Cooper — the last three infants under the age of 21 years — and John W. Cooper and Jane E. Cooper their statutory Guardians, heirs of Reuben H. Cooper decd, to divide the land among the heirs and allot dower to the widow of said Reuben H. Cooper decd, of the County of Fayette … of the first part, and [the individual heir] … of the second part …"
The three lots conveyed (the "plat and division of the lands of Reuben H. Cooper decd … of record in the office of the Clerk of the Fayette County … Court"; the land lies in Scott County): - → John W. Cooper [p.911]: a lot (~50 acres) bounded by James Gaines and William Gaines on the Payne Mill Road. (bk pp.50–52) - → Sally A. Cooper [p.912]: Lot No. 3 (~61 acres 24 poles), bounded by Payne Mill Road, S. W. Gaines line, William Crenshaw, W. Gaines. (bk pp.52–53) - → Stephen L. Cooper [p.909]: a lot (~50 acres) on the Iron Works road, bounded by Will Crenshaw's line, James Gaines, Eli Prewitt. (bk pp.53–54)
(Deeds allotting lots to the other two heirs — Daniel [p.914] and William [p.913] — and the widow's dower are part of the same division; those pages were not pulled.)
Notes (identifications → people files; not verbatim)
- PRIMARY-SOURCE LOCK on Reuben H. Cooper's [p.844] death + heirs: the petition is by his widow Jane E. Cooper and his heirs ⇒ Reuben died before 3 Jan 1862 (corroborates the "d. 1861 Fayette Co." tree lead — see [p.844]). His complete heir roster is stated: widow Jane E. + five children — John W. [p.911], Daniel [p.914], William [p.913], Sally A. [p.912], Stephen L. [p.909] — matching L.4 and the 1850/1860 censuses ([D.439]/[D.440]) exactly.
- Minor/adult status (Jan 1862): William, Sally A., and Stephen L. were "infants under 21" ⇒ born after ~Jan 1841 ( William B. b. Jul 1841 = just-20; Sally A. b. ~1848; Stephen L. b. ~1848). John W. and Daniel were of age (b. 1835 / 1838). John W. Cooper + widow Jane E. were the statutory guardians.
- Geography: the family lived in Fayette Co. (petition to Fayette Co. Court; division of record there), but the divided land lay in Scott Co. — lots on the Payne Mill Road and Iron Works road, neighbors James & William Gaines, William Crenshaw, Eli Prewitt. (The Gaines adjacency recurs — cf. [K.62]/[K.63]; Elizabeth (Cooper) Gaines [p.850] married a Gaines.)
- This is Reuben's estate division (his own land), distinct from his father Daniel III's [p.737] estate division (the separate ~1850 Cane-Run partition referenced by [K.59]/[K.63]).
