Children (with Nathan Cooper II, m. 1748)

Child Vitals Cross-confirm
Samuel Cooper b. 24 May 1740 Fairmount Hunterdon NJ – d. 1825 b. 1740 PREDATES 1748 marriage — tree anomaly. G.188 Find A Grave narrative says Samuel b. 1752 = post-marriage. L.117's 1740 is wrong — most likely conflation of two different Samuel Coopers
Nathan Cooper III b. 11 Mar 1751 Mendham Morris NJ – d. 1834 G.188 + A.15
Mary Cooper b. 1756 Sussex Co. NJ – d. 1842 G.188 (= m. Philip Clover 1758-1830)
Mehitabel Cooper b. 14 Aug 1758 Roxbury Twp Morris NJ – d. 4 Nov 1797 NJ G.188 (= m. a Davison per G.188 child-link)
Joseph Henry COOPER b. 12 Jun 1760 Milton Morris NJ – d. 1843 G.188
Abraham Cooper b. 18 Feb 1762 Chester Morris NJ – d. 1818 G.188
Elizabeth Cooper b. ~1765 NJ NEW (not in G.188 explicit list; G.188 listed only 6 children)

1728-vs-1730 birth-year resolution

L.117 attests b. 1728 with 6 cited sources including Obadiah Seward of Long Island, New York, and his descendants + The Early Germans of New Jersey + Geneanet + Family Data Collection. G.189 Find A Grave stone says 1730.

L.117's 1728 likely correct given (a) 6-source consensus, (b) inclusion of authoritative Seward-family genealogy book, vs Find A Grave stone-engraving potentially imprecise. Default catalog DoB = 1728.

Samuel Cooper 1740 — RESOLVED as tree error or conflated identity

L.117's "Samuel Cooper b. 24 May 1740 Fairmount Hunterdon NJ" is chronologically impossible as son of Nathan II × Mehitabel m. 1748. Resolutions: - Tree-builder error: 1740 should be 1752 (= G.188 reading) - Two Samuel Coopers conflated: (a) Samuel of Chester m. Elizabeth Betsy Brown 1765-1825 (= L.116's Samuel — DoB 1740 + d. 27 Jul 1825 consistent) + (b) Samuel son of Nathan II + Mehitabel (= G.188 b. 1752)

The second resolution is most likely. L.117's "Samuel Cooper 1740" = L.116's Samuel Cooper 1740-1825 (= Mehitable 1782's father) — = a different person from Nathan II × Mehitabel's biological son Samuel b. 1752.

L.117 tree-builder appears to have CONFLATED these two Samuels by erroneously placing the older Samuel as Nathan II's son. fam.2 has multiple Samuels across generations.

Provenance + caveats

LOW certainty (Ancestry tree). But 12 cited sources is unusually high for a tree-tier — suggests this tree-builder did substantial research. Particularly the "Obadiah Seward of Long Island" book = high-quality upstream secondary source.
