Why it matters

  1. It corrects a misreading in [D.508]. The 1870 Andover census records a 7-month-old in John W. Cooper's household under her own surname, first transcribed here as "Hocklebower [?]". With Slockbower in hand, re-examination at 14× shows the initial is a looped capital S: the hand reads S-l-o-c-k-b-o-w-e-r. Correction applied to [D.508] and [p.1703].
  2. It supplies a candidate mother → [p.1724]. This Densey Slockbower shares the infant's unusual given name, was ~17 at the Nov 1869 birth, and is placed in Green Twp, Sussex Co. in 1870 — the adjoining township, and the one John W. Cooper himself lived in in 1860 ([D.226]). The tree does not assert this; it lists no child named Densey for her. The hypothesis is the catalog's, built on name + age + place, and is unproven.
