What this document records
The null is the point
EXACTLY TWO COOPERS IN TWENTY YEARS OF WARREN LETTERS AND GUARDIANSHIPS, AND BOTH ARE ADULTS. ⇒ no Cooper guardianship appears in the volume 1851-1870. That is a real negative for [pr.14] and [pr.17]: a guardianship names a dead parent and surviving minors, and there is none to find here.
It is a volume index not a county index
It indexes one book, not the county. A Cooper guardianship recorded in a different Warren volume, or in the Orphans' Court rather than the Surrogate's letters book, would not appear — so this is a bounded null, not a general one.

the source: and coverage: headers and are not repeated here.

- (image held in the family archive) (4846 × 3542)
Transcribed by eye at 3–4× from the saved JPEGs — not from FamilySearch's machine transcript, which reads the Joseph line as "Copper Joseph".
Data from the document — image 7, the start of the C block [verbatim]
Nine lines, then the page is blank. Columns are surname + given name | status | register page:
"Chamberlin Susannah decd — 5 Crisman John " — 5 Cooper Joseph " — 25 Carhart Lourance S a minor — 31 Carhart Sarah " " — 32 Clawson Jacob deceased — 51 Carter Joseph C " — 62 Creveling John " — 61 Cole Samuel " — 109"
Data from the document — image 8, the C block continued [verbatim]
Both pages. The left page runs from register page ~8 to 236, the right page 236 to ~389. The Cooper Aaron line and its immediate neighbours, read by eye:
"Cooke William S & Elizabeth R Minors — 165 Clark William decd — 172 Cooper Aaron — — 175 Cook Catharine — — 200 Crisman Oscar — — 216 Cook Marcus A — — 231"
Minors are indexed under their own surname throughout this block — the lines that establish it:
"Carhart Lourance S a minor — 31 · Carhart Sarah a minor — 32 · Carhart John & Jesse minors — 22 & 23 · Caskey Clarinda C., Mary E. & Adriana N. Minors — 39/45 · Chambers Wilber F., Oliver, Leonidas, Lanellas minors — 77 · Chambers Luther a minor — 78 · Crutz Wm, Lydia, Anna, Peter & Charles Minors — 88 · Crawford Elizabeth a minor — 99 · Carter Sarah A & Margaret D. Minors — 113 & 114 · Carter Sarah F., Joseph S. & Jacob V. Minor — 117 & 118 · Creveling John M a minor — 150 · Creveling Edward a minor — 150 · Creveling William H a minor — 150 · Creveling James A a minor — 151 · Creveling John W a minor — 151 · Cooke Edna & Sarah E. Minors — 288 · Cooke Theodore & Ann Minors — 288 · Cook Silas P a minor — 230 · Cummins Rebecca J. & Ann Mary Minors — 233 · Campbell William A a minor — 264 · Creveling Abraham L. a minor, Guardianship — 316 · Cline Garner A. a Lunatic, Guardianship — 317 · Crutz Anna a Minor, Guardianship — 327"
No Cooper minor
Both pages of image 7 and image 8 were read line by line. The C block contains exactly two Coopers, and both are decedents: Joseph (p. 25) and Aaron (p. 175). No Cooper appears as a minor or ward anywhere in it.
And the rest of the index has now been swept too (2026-08-09): images 9–41, covering A–Y, searched for any Cooper-shaped string. Zero hits outside the C block. So no Cooper was mis-filed under another letter.
Scope of the negative, stated precisely. - It is a negative about the index, not proof no proceeding exists. - The C block was read by eye; the A–Y sweep trusted FamilySearch's OCR of a difficult hand — deliberately searched loosely, because this reel's OCR renders the one known Cooper line as "Copper". The sweep is moderate-confidence, not verbatim. - Seven images returned no transcript (11, 12, 21, 23, 25, 31, 40) and were not visually checked. Image 9 was, and is a genuinely blank spread. An empty transcript is not a negative. - The one case no index search can close: this index is keyed on the ward or decedent, not the guardian — every minor line reads "surname given a minor / Minors". So a Cooper ward would be under Cooper. But if a Cooper child was placed and the entry written under the guardian's family name, searching for "Cooper" cannot find it. Only reading the 1851–53 register pages themselves would. - It covers 1851–1870.
Cross-references
- A.94 Joseph Cooper 1852 Letters of Admin — register page 25, now read (image 54). Reading it corrected the grant date from 24 to 29 Nov 1852 and the Surrogate's name from "Rice" to Reese.
- A.122 — register page 175, transcribed.
- A.123 — the Orphans' Court minutes for the same period and county.

Open follow-ups
- ~~Read register page 25~~ — done 2026-08-09, transcribed at [A.94]. It carried a correction, not just a confirmation.
- ~~Read the rest of the index (beyond C)~~ — swept 2026-08-09, images 9–41, zero Cooper hits.
- Visually confirm the seven no-transcript images (11, 12, 21, 23, 25, 31, 40) are blank, if this negative ever needs to be airtight.
- Read the 1851–53 register pages themselves — the only way to catch a Cooper child placed under a guardian's surname, which no index search can reach. Register page 5 is the volume's start; page 25 is Nov 1852, so the 1851–52 stretch is roughly images 43–54.
