What this document records
The null
NO "Cooper, John" APPEARS IN THIS INDEX BETWEEN 1665 AND 1899. The earliest are John M., 1900 (Liber 634 p. 17) and John H., 1906 (Liber 787 p. 73) — both twentieth century. The same null holds for Kuyper, John before 1772 and Cuyper, John before 1765.
What the null bears on
THE FAMILY TRADITION SAYS A JOHN COOPER OF HOLLAND DIED IN NEW YORK CITY c. 1700-1715 ([pr.2]). ⇒ if he left a will proved in New York County, he should be in this index, and he is not — under Cooper, Cuyper or Kuyper. WHAT THAT DOES AND DOES NOT SHOW. It does not disprove the tradition: a man may die intestate, be administered rather than probated, be probated in another county, or be indexed under a spelling not swept. What it does is close the most obvious search, which is worth recording precisely so it is not run again. Argued on Daniel Cooper Sr.
Transcription and notes
Provenance, the deliberately bounded scope, the null itself and what it does and does not
show are all in the source: and coverage: headers and are not repeated here. What the
null means for the John-Cooper-of-Holland tradition is argued on [p.1].

Cooper, Simon — second entry
The master index has TWO Simon Cooper entries: - Simon — June 4, 1691, Liber 4, p. 64/107 (the primary target) - Simon — Dec 16, 1756, Liber 20, p. 164 (presumably son or grandson)
Cooper, John — NEGATIVE finding
Earliest two "John" entries in the entire 1665–1910 index:

Cuyper-surname sweep (A-D vol, Cu-section)
Total of 4 Cuyper-surname entries in the 1662–1910 master index — all 1731 or later:
| First name | Date proved | Liber | Page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cornelius | Nov 18, 1731 | 11 | 187 |
| Clause Janse | Aug 27, 1765 | 25 | 124 |
| Johannes | Oct 2, 1765 | 25 | 143 |
| Thones (= Thomas?) | Sept 23, 1767 | 26 | 27 |
Cuyper Johannes 1765 = Dutch form of "John" — earliest "John" in any Cooper-spelling variant in this index, but 74 years after Daniel Sr's expected birth and ~50+ years too late to be Daniel Sr's father.
Cuyper Clause Janse 1765 — the "Janse" patronymic = "son of Jan" (= John). This indicates a Jan Cuyper father at some point, but no independent Jan Cuyper probate record locates here.
