What this document records

It abstracts b 5

NINE ENTRIES, THREE ORIGINAL SOURCES. Five of this cluster ([B.1], [B.2], [B.3], [B.4], [B.6]) are typed NJSA index cards of 1915-1927 abstracting the other four. A card is never independent corroboration of the manuscript it summarises. This card's source is [B.5] line 53, which it quotes almost exactly.

The date note is a reading

"12/30/15" is recorded as possibly a filing date of 30 December 1915 — that is the entry's own hedge and it stands. If it is a date, this card predates [B.1]'s stamped 21 February 1927 by eleven years, which is the only evidence the catalog has for how long the Hunterdon militia card index took to build.

What a bounty payment is

WHAT JESSE HART'S BOOKS ARE. Auditor's Book B holds the abstracts of the Paymaster to the Militia of the Counties of Hunterdon & Somerset. p. 186 abstracts the bounty rolls he discharged; p. 183 the pay rolls. They are payment records, not muster rolls — a line proves a warrant was settled, not that a man stood in a field on that date. [B.1]'s cataloguer read them as service; that reading is his.

Transcription and notes

Provenance, the 1915 filing-date reading, and the fact that this card abstracts [B.5] rather than corroborating it are in the source: and coverage: headers and are not repeated here.
