What this document records
The record line verbatim
Under the year heading "1779.", following "Mar. 20. Servant of Benjamin Pierson, dys- entery.", the ditto line: "" 28. Wife of Elias Vancourt." No given name, no age and no cause of death are printed for her.
The combined registers line verbatim
Running head "COMBINED REGISTERS, 1742 to 1889." page 245, last entry under V: "Vancourt, ——— w. Elias ; d. 28 Mar. 1779." The dash stands where a given name would go. The compilation adds nothing to the Bill: same date, same husband, no name.
How the record names widows
The same page of The Record prints widows as "widow of": "Tamer, widow of Capt. Solomon Munson" (28 Jan. 1779), "Hannah, widow of Stephen Freeman" (22 July 1779), "Nancy, widow of Ezekiel Cheevers" (12 Apr. 1780), "Widow Leonard" (5 Nov. 1778). The Van Court entry reads "Wife of".
What neither page says
Neither names the woman, gives her age, or says which Elias Vancourt was her husband. Neither states a place of death; the registers record the congregation's deaths.
Other van courts in the combined registers
Plain-string searches of the Combined Registers' text layer on 2026-11-02 also hit "Van Court, Michael" and "Van Cort, Mary" (PDF page 252) and a "John Van Cort" marriage entry under Prudden (PDF page 207). Text-layer hits only; not read off the images and not transcribed here.
