Reading notes

The item is datelined 'UPLAND, April 17' and says 'killed today'; FamilySearch gives 16 Apr 1925, and the Ontario Daily Report of 17 Apr refers to the accident as 'yesterday' (snippet). Both recorded; not resolved here. The middle paragraph (the earlier Linder accident) is elided above. 2026-10-16 - THIS DATELINE IS NOW THE ODD ONE OUT, and the catalog says so rather than leaving the question open. The Ontario Daily Report of THURSDAY 16 APRIL, found and filed as [J.555], carries the story on page 1 and says the accident happened 'this morning at 9 o'clock'; the same paper of the 17th calls it 'yesterday' (the snippet already noted above). So BOTH Ontario issues agree on the 16th. AND THE INQUEST SETTLES THE SHAPE OF IT: this item says 'At the inquest this afternoon before Deputy Coroner Emmett Waters at the scene of the accident, an accidental verdict was returned', and [J.555] reports that same inquest - same deputy coroner, 3 o'clock, partly at the scene - as being held on the afternoon of the 16th. It is one inquest, and the Redlands paper has placed it a day late along with the death. ⇒ A paper in the next county picking up a neighbouring town's story and re-dating it 'today' is the ordinary explanation. William G Cooper now records 16 April 1925; the California Death Index's 15 April [F.367] remains a separate and unexplained disagreement.
