Why this entry exists
Vol. II 1913 contains multi-article content with three Cooper-relevant clusters surfaced by the v190.5x9 corpus sweep:
- A continuation of a Somerset Co. NJ church marriage register (Reformed Dutch + Presbyterian + Methodist congregations) listing 11 Cooper marriages 1818-1877, with marrying parson identified
- A Basking Ridge Presbyterian / nearby cemetery transcript article containing the death entry for Charity Cooper Haas (Benjamin Cooper's 3rd daughter per Littell I.4)
- The First Reformed Church Raritan (Somerville) baptismal register transcription series (continued from Vol. I) with Coopman and Coryel family entries 1744-1745
Verbatim — Cooper marriage register (p. 58)
Cooper, Abraham and Jane Rinearson, Dec. 30, 1818 (Vredenburgh). Cooper, Abraham and Maria Nevius, Sept. 12, 1836 (Zabriskie). Cooper, Abraham and Allenia Mellert, May 2, 1843 (Messier). Cooper, Albert P. and Hannah Jane Cubberly, Dec. 30, 1841 (Messier). Cooper, David and Maria C. Reed, July 11, 1877 (Rowland). Cooper, Nathan M. and Fanny Howell, Aug. 10, 1839 (Blauvelt). Cooper, Thomas and Mariah Totten, June 25, 1831 (Labagh). Cooper, Thomas and Kate H. Hoagland, Dec. 16, 1857 (Ludlow). Cooper, William and Martha Cross, March 13, 1867 (Rankin). Cooper, William B. and Phebe L. Dayton, Nov. 14, 1843 (Brenkerhoff).
[Earlier in same article:] Compton, Joseph and Margaret S. Cooper, Feb. 14, 1857 (Rodgers).
Marrying parsons (Vredenburgh, Zabriskie, Messier, Rowland, Blauvelt, Labagh, Ludlow, Rankin, Brenkerhoff, Rodgers) are Reformed Dutch / Presbyterian clergy active in Somerset Co. NJ during the listed periods. The article appears to be a master-list compiled from multiple parsons' marriage books.
Verbatim — Charity Cooper Haas death entry (cemetery roll, ~p. 252)
Goltra, Fanny (wife of James P. and dau. of David and Martha Beach), d. Nov. 23, 1819, aged 21 yrs., 1 mo., 20 dys.
Haas, Charity Cooper (wife of Jacob), d. Dec. 31, 1856, aged 66 yrs., 1 mo., 3 dys.
Haas, Jacob, d. Jan. 15, 1845, aged 52 yrs., 9 mos., 2 dys.
Haas, Job (son of Jacob and Charity), d. Jan. 20, 1833, aged 7 yrs., 2 mos., 19 dys.
Catalog implication — Charity Cooper Haas birth ~1790
Computing back from d. 31 Dec 1856 aged 66 yrs 1 mo 3 dys gives birth date ~28 Sep 1790. Per I.4 Littell p. 176 Hand-chapter NOTE, Charity Cooper m. Jacob Haas; their son John Haas m. Hannah Hand of Long Hill. Per project pr.12 Benjamin daughters per Littell.md, Charity = Benjamin Cooper's 3rd daughter (Benjamin had Polly, Caty, Charity per Littell + sons John per Craddock I.22).
Benjamin died 1794 — Charity's birth in 1790 fits her being his daughter (he was alive). Charity had at least one son Job Haas (b. ~Nov 1825, d. 20 Jan 1833 age 7) plus the John Haas mentioned in Littell. Job's death age 7 means Charity buried a young child in 1833; husband Jacob in 1845; herself in 1856. All three buried together in the cemetery transcribed.
Verbatim — First Reformed Church Raritan (Somerville) baptismal records — Coopman + Coryel entries
The volume continues the multi-issue baptismal-register transcription started in Vol. I (page 217+ of Vol II = continuation):
- — Coopman, Hannis and Eva Abraham. [witness]
...
- — Coryel, Davit and Elsie Jannetie. ... — Coryel, Abraham and Tuvntie Moses.
... — Coopman, Johannis and Eva Isack.
[To be Continued]
[Editor's section break: First Reformed Church, Raritan (Somerville) Baptisms 305 (= page number)]
The "Coryel, Davit" + "Coryel, Abraham" 1745 entries cross-reference I.48 Ingham Coryell 1943 + I.44 Santos. Per Ingham, David Coryell + Abraham Coryell + Emanuel Coryell + Samuel Coryell are sons of Abraham Coriell of Piscataway 1702. The 1745 First Reformed Church Raritan baptisms documenting both David × Elsie Jannetie + Abraham × Tuvntie Moses as parents primary-source-attest two of Abraham 1702's sons present at Raritan in 1745 baptizing children, consistent with Ingham's Coryell genealogy.
The Coopman entries are likely a separate Coopman-trade/surname family at Raritan — not necessarily Daniel-Sr-line. Per memory feedback_dutch_records_check_kuyper_for_cooper.md Coopman / Kuyper / Cuyper / Cooper are interchangeable Dutch-trade-name forms.
Verbatim — Coryell marriages (later in volume)
Coriell, Andrew S. and Mary E. Carman, July 29, 1873 (Rodgers). Coriell, Elmer R. and Hunter Isabella, Jan. 24, 1878 (Parry). ... Coryell, George Gest and Molly Schenck, Sept. 2, 1836 (Dougherty). ... Cowly, Richard B. and Esther Coryell, May 7, 1819 (Boggs).
These are Somerset Co. NJ marriage register entries for Coryell-line descendants. Useful for downstream Coryell family-tracing per the Cooper-Coriell-Y-DNA-mystery memory but no direct Daniel-Sr-line link.
Trade-mention exclusion
Line ~8894: Adriaense Bennet, an Englishman, and by trade a cooper, the ancestor of... — trade mention of Adriaense Bennet (well-documented English-immigrant cooper-by-trade ancestor of the Bennet family). NOT a surname-Cooper hit. Excluded from family-line analysis.
Catalog implications
NEW primary-source-published Charity Cooper Haas birth + death window
Charity Cooper Haas: b. ~28 Sep 1790, d. 31 Dec 1856 age 66 yrs 1 mo 3 dys, married Jacob Haas (1792-1845), son Job Haas (1825-1833) + son John Haas (per Littell).
Locks Charity as Benjamin Cooper's daughter chronologically — born during her father's lifetime; he died 4 years later (1794) with her aged 4. Adds to the catalog's primary-source-grade documentation of Benjamin's three daughters: - Polly Cooper (b. 6 Mar 1780, m. Joseph Cross 1800 + John Annin) per I.22 Craddock + G.20 Basking Ridge stone - Caty/Catharine Cooper (b. 1783, m. Amos Dayton; primary-source marriage date 19 Feb 1812 per M.28 SCHQ Vol III 1914) per A.11 Amos Dayton's 1852 will + I.4 Littell - Charity Cooper (b. ~1790, m. Jacob Haas, sons Job + John) per I.4 Littell + this M.27 entry
Plus son John per Craddock I.22 = the male-line / Y-DNA candidate ancestor still unresolved.
Cooper marriage register data — possible Daniel-Sr-line continuations 19th c.
The 11 Cooper marriages 1818-1877 may include grandchildren / great-grandchildren of Daniel Sr's line, but matching them requires forward-tracing each Cooper to their parents. The most catalog-promising is William Cooper × Martha Cross 13 Mar 1867 (Rankin) — the parson Rankin = Rev. Dr. Rankin of Basking Ridge Presbyterian (per I.47 Rankin 1872 Historical Discourse), the same minister who wrote the Discourse on which Honeyman 1912 (M.24) cited. Cooper-Cross marriages persisted at Long Hill / Basking Ridge / Bedminster across 4+ generations from Daniel Cooper Jr × Ann Cross (1750s-60s) → Polly Cooper × Joseph Cross (1800) → William Cooper × Martha Cross (1867).
Coryell continuations — 19th c. Coryell descendants
Andrew S. Coriell, Elmer R. Coriell, George Gest Coryell, Esther Coryell — 4 distinct Coryell-line marriages in the volume's master register. Useful for Coryell-line forward-tracing but no immediate Daniel-Sr-line link.
