What this document records
It confirms 1704j
ENTRY #1 IS THE STATE INDEX'S OWN CITATION FOR BENJAMIN COOPER'S ADMINISTRATION — "Cooper, Benjamin, 1704J. B. 36, p. 168. Int." ⇒ docket 1704J and book 36 p. 168, matching [A.1]–[A.4] (the docket) and [A.7] (the register page) exactly. Two independent published indexes now give the same location — this one and [I.54]'s Vol. 37 abstract. That is a genuine cross-check on the docket number, which matters because OCR of docket digits is the weak point of this source.
What an index row is
A ROW IS A POINTER, NOT EVIDENCE ABOUT A PERSON. Testator, docket, record type, year — nothing more. ⇒ the other seven Hunterdon Coopers are names with dockets, not identified people.
The 1854 william
Entry #8, "Cooper, William, [3]488J. Inv. 1854", has been noted as a candidate for William of Kingwood. A candidate on date and county alone, and the leading digit of the docket is bracketed as uncertain — which is precisely the OCR failure this source is prone to. Not asserted.
