What this document records
The column heading is what makes it decisive
The column is headed “AGE 1st July 1863” — a fixed statutory date, not “age at enumeration”. ⇒ age 25 on that day means born between 2 July 1837 and 1 July 1838. That is a fourteen-month bracket from a single number, and it is why this outranks the catalog's other three age statements about him: the others are ages at loosely-dated moments, while this one is pinned to a day named on the form.
Class i says something too
Class I = men 20-35, and unmarried men 35-45. At 25 he falls in the age band either way, so — unlike [B.46]'s Class II entry — this tells us nothing about his marital state. Recorded so the parallel is not over-read.
The spelling is the clerk s
At 11× the surname reads “Rodericek” — the enumerator's rendering. Recorded as written; the catalog's Roderick Byanton Cooper comes from elsewhere.
