What is transcribed: One officiant's block on page 107 — the six marriages entered under the Reverend John Boyd. Not the whole page, and not the three other columns on this frame, which carry other justices' and ministers' returns of 1811–1813.

What this document records

What it says

"Robert Cooper to Sophia Sheffer", fifth in a block headed "Married by the Reverend John Boyd" — the same six couples, in the same order, as the signed loose return at [C.115].

What it does not say

No ages, parents, residences, witnesses or venue — the register copies the return, and the return had none of these. And it does not, in this scan, give the dates — see source.transcription.quality.

Transcription and notes

Data from the document [verbatim]

Page 107, the block headed for the Reverend John Boyd — read at 2× on the full-resolution plate. The date column at the left of each line is illegible in the gutter:

Married by the Reverend John Boyd [illegible] — Isaac Dennis to Huldah Shaw [illegible] — Thomas Hunt Junr. to Rebecca Turner [illegible] — Robert Lanning to Mary Decker [illegible] — George Hunt to Eliza Brown [illegible] — Robert Cooper to Sophia Sheffer [illegible] — Benjamin Chandler to Mary Luce

Why a second copy of the same six marriages is worth its own entry

Because the two documents fail in opposite places, and between them nothing is lost.

[C.115] — the loose return [C.116] — this register copy
scan resolution 1719×951, the collection's ceiling 6496×3824
the names clear clear
the dates plain — Novʳ. 12 — 1812 illegible in the gutter
the officiant signed John Boyd named "the Reverend" John Boyd
written by the minister the county clerk

Two independent hands wrote Sheffer. The clerk copying into the county book was reading the minister's paper, not the FamilySearch index — so the surname survives a transcription step that had a real chance of corrupting it, and does not.

And the register supplies what the return omits: the officiant's title — the Reverend. The loose return is signed John Boyd with no style at all; without page 107 he would be an unidentified man rather than a minister. ⇒ a clergy marriage, not a justice's — which is where to look for a congregation, and therefore for a baptismal register that might name Sophia's father.

Two numbering systems on one film — read the note in source.image_note

This is the third catalog entry on DGS 004541238 ([C.84] p. 233, [C.113] p. 235, and this at p. 107), and the first to be viewed in item-relative numbering. The film is divided into 3 items; this opening is image 42 of 104 in item 2, while [C.84] cites image 181 of 478 whole-film. No conversion between the two is recorded here, because none was verified. See films/film.004541238.yaml.
