Document C.37 · Marriage Bonds / Marriage Records · transcription: verbatim
NJ Archives Vol. XXII — Marriage Records 1665-1800 — Runyon + Coriell sweep (companion to [C.36](C.36.yaml) Cooper sweep). Runyon (~13 marriages) cluster in Middlesex/Piscataway + Hunterdon/Amwell = the family milieu of [p.148 Grace Runyon Cooper](../../people/p.148%20Grace%20Runyon%20Cooper.md) (Daniel Sr's 1st wife, mother of Daniel Jr = Chris's ancestral line) — incl. Reziah Runyon × Elizabeth Crow (Middlesex 1761) ([p.261](../../people/p.261%20Reziah%20Runyon.md)). Coriell = strikingly THIN — only ~2 marriages in the whole 1665-1800 volume (Agnes Coriell × Andrew Smalley, 1746; Mart[ha/hew] Corriell × Moses Moore) = a useful negative datum for [pr.16 Cooper-Coriell Y-DNA mystery](../../projects/pr.16%20Cooper-Coriell%20Y-DNA%20mystery.md) (the NJ Coriells barely register in colonial marriage records, consistent with the K.19/K.20 finding that they clustered in a few Piscataway + Amwell families).

(Excluded: "Runyon Soper" / "Soper, Runyon" 1796 = a man whose given name is Runyon, surname Soper — not a Runyon-surname marriage.)
Geography: overwhelmingly Middlesex (Piscataway) + Hunterdon (Amwell), with Freehold/Monmouth + a Bucks-Co.-PA emigrant branch — i.e. the Raritan-valley Runyon family Grace Runyon belonged to. The Reziah / Reuben / Ephraim given-names recur across the Piscataway Runyons (cf. p.261 Reziah, p.228 Peter, p.227 Vincent).
Coriell marriages [verbatim] — strikingly sparse
| Coriell party | Spouse | Year |
|---|---|---|
| Agnes Coriell [also "Coriel"] | Andrew Smalley | 1746 |
| Mart[ha/hew] Corriell [OCR "Marthew"] | Moses Moore | [year not captured] |
Only ~2 Coriell marriages in the entire 1665-1800 volume, and neither involves a Cooper or a Runyon. The NJ Coriell surname is nearly absent from the colonial marriage record — consistent with the K.19/K.20 finding that the NJ Coriells were a small, geographically concentrated group (David Coriell of Piscataway + the Amwell/Hunterdon Coryells). For pr.16 this is a negative datum: there is no Vol-XXII marriage tying Coriell to Cooper or Runyon (the 1753 Sarah/John Corriel v. Daniel Cooper litigation K.30 remains the only direct Cooper–Coriell link, pending the pr.77 manuscript pull).
Catalog significance (interpretation — not data bullets)
- For p.148: maps the mid-18th-c. Piscataway/Amwell Runyon generation (Grace's nephews/cousins' era), reinforcing the Raritan-valley Runyon locus. Grace's parents are already recorded as Peter Runyon [[p.272]] × Providence Blackford [[p.273]]; this sweep adds extended-kin context, not new parentage.
- For pr.16: the near-absence of Coriell marriages in Vol XXII is a (mild) negative — the Coriell Y-line in NJ was thin/insular, which fits the NPE being a single rare event rather than a broad Cooper–Coriell intermarriage pattern.
