Cooper, Benj.    II p 148 Cooper, Daniel    I p 162   (p.18) Cooper, George    II p 143   (p.33)   (township of Morris) Cooper, John    I p 162   (p.18)

(Parenthetical "(p.NN)" = the typescript copy-page where the mortgage is transcribed; "Cooper, Benj. II p 148" has no copy-page = NOT transcribed = lead to the original Book II.) Both Daniel + John index to the same mortgage-book page (Book I p.162) = John appears as an adjoining owner within Daniel's mortgage.

Catalog significance

Finding 1 — Daniel Sr's family subdivided Berkeley Lot No. 2 at Long Hill (1776 snapshot)

Daniel Sr's 1776 mortgage primary-source-attests that by 1776 the Long Hill Lot No. 2 (Berkeley Survey) was held by at least three Coopers in adjoining parcels — Daniel Sr (the ~90-ac mortgaged tract), Daniel Cooper Jr. (SW-corner neighbor), and John Cooper (a bounding line). This dovetails with: - K.31/K.32: the 9-10 Nov 1733 reconfirmation of "Lot No. 2 ... on the north side of Passaic River" to Daniel Cooper Yeoman (the gap-reducing attestation); - I.138 Chambers (1895): Daniel Sr "bought lot No. 2, 500 acres, of the Berkeley tract."

= the family acquired the 500-ac Berkeley Lot No. 2 and, by 1776, had subdivided portions to sons Daniel Jr + John, with Daniel Sr mortgaging ~90 ac of his own share to the wartime Loan Office. Primary-source-confirms John Cooper (Daniel Sr's son, d. 1778) as a Long Hill landowner adjoining his father + brother ~2 yrs before his death.

Finding 2 — George Cooper 1786 (candidate Daniel-Sr-son George)

The 200-ac George Cooper mortgage (1786, Township of Morris, Jonas Carle + Peter Layton + Passaic River boundaries) sits in the same Carle-family neighborhood as Daniel Sr's Long Hill tract (both reference the Carle line). This geographic proximity is suggestive of p.80 George Cooper, son of Daniel Sr (b. ~1745) — one of the catalog's least-documented Daniel-Sr children — rather than the Hanover fam.10 George. Not asserted — alternative readings remain; original Book II p.143 + a George-Cooper land/probate trace would resolve.

Finding 3 — uncopied "Cooper, Benj. II p 148" lead

A Benjamin Cooper held a Morris Co. Loan Office mortgage at Book II p.148 (~1786) that Canfield did not transcribe. Whether this is our p.2 Benjamin (by 1786 resident in Lebanon Twp Hunterdon, but with continuing Morris ties + heavy debt — see K.33) or another Benjamin is open. Acquisition path = original Morris County Loan Office Book II p.148 (NJSA or Morris County archives).
