- Catalog significance: ** John Cooper witness signature primary-source-confirmed on 4 Feb 1707/8 Newark deed.** This adds a fourth 1708-1709 witness role for p.215 John Cooper in Newark-area land transactions (= K.4 Records 6 + 16 + 22 + 23, all witness or judge roles). Reinforces his Newark-Essex civic presence in the pre-Judge-of-CCP years (= 4 years before 1712 K.4 Record 18 first Judge-of-CCP attestation).
NEW Record 26 — Cooper, Hannah (Grantor / Wife of John Cooper of Long Island) — 19 August 1676 — Elizabethtown 70-acre sale to Dr. Henry Greenland — [verbatim manuscript read 2026-05-23]
** This record was NOT in the original 25-record NJSA Cooper-surname search result but appears on the same Liber 1, Part B (EJ) Folio 65 page as K.4 Records 5 + 21 (= John Cooper of Long Island Elizabethtown bond + transfer). Likely NJSA-indexed under "Henry Greenland" (the grantee, a higher-status named-individual) OR under "Hannah Greer" / cursive misread of "Cooper" so it didn't surface in the Cooper-name filter. Catalog-discovered 2026-05-23 by manuscript-image inspection** when verifying whether the new "Liber 1, Part B (EJ) Folio 65 - 274.pdf" download was a duplicate (= yes, image-duplicate, but the image always contained this additional deed at the bottom-half that prior K.4 transcription had missed).
- TO: Henry Greenland (Doctor) (of Elizabethtown / "this Towne" per body) — = same Henry Greenland named as adjoining-landowner in K.4 Records 5 + 21.
- FROM: Hannah Cooper (Wife of [John Cooper] of this Towne, planter) = wife of K.4 Records 5 + 21 fam.12 candidate John Cooper of Long Island. Marginal note in manuscript identifies grantor as "Hannah Coopr" (= contemporaneous spelling of Cooper).
- Type: CONVEYANCE. 70 acres at Elizabethtown.
- Date: 19 August 1676 = ~5 weeks AFTER K.4 Record 21's 15 July 1676 transfer-of-deed to Samuel Moore Marshall (= John Cooper's 70-acre Elizabethtown property defaulting to the marshall on the Ogden judgment).
- Manuscript verbatim:
"[Date line:] [—] day of August in [—] 19 day of 1676 & in the [25th?] year of the reigne of our Sovereign Lord Charles ye 2nd [Lord Charles the Second King of England] of Scotland, France & Ireland King defender of the faith &c. Anno Domini [—]

- Reference: Liber 1, Part B (EJ) Folio 65 (SSTSE023) — = same recordation page as Records 5 + 21 in this catalog. Image downloaded 2026-05-23.
- ** CATALOG-DEFINING CONTEXT:**
- John Cooper of Long Island's wife was named HANNAH = NEW primary-source identification.
- Hannah was active at Elizabethtown 19 August 1676 = ~5 weeks after the property defaulted to Samuel Moore Marshall per Record 21.
- The 70-acre sale to Henry Greenland may represent: (a) Hannah's dower release (= her 1/3-share of the marital land) being sold separately from the dwelling-house that went to Marshall; or (b) a parallel land disposition on a separate Cooper parcel.
- John Cooper may have been alive at this date (= "Wife of John" present-tense suggests husband still living, but could be ambiguous) — OR he may have already left Elizabethtown / died, and Hannah was settling outstanding affairs.
- Henry Greenland (= adjoining-landowner per Records 5 + 21) was the buyer = opportunistic acquisition by a neighbor of land that the Cooper family was being forced to liquidate.
- Cross-link: fam.12 Long Island Southampton Cooper kindred — Hannah Cooper as wife of fam.12-candidate John Cooper of Long Island = new identification adding to the fam.12 narrative.
- NEW catalog person stub possibly warranted: Hannah Cooper of Elizabethtown / Long Island, wife of John Cooper of Long Island. Defer pending decision on whether to expand fam.12 narrative or create individual stub.

- Reference: Essex Co Deed Book B (1728-1793) Folio 167 (CESRD001)
- Catalog significance: John Cooper acting as witness (not Judge role) alongside Phoebe Cooper (likely wife/daughter) on 1717 Mountain Purchase deed. Joseph Bonnel = Judge of CCP at this point (predating John Cooper's later assumption of that role).
Record 13 — Cooper, John (Judge of CCP; Official) — 12 Feb 1717/1718 — Newark "Dogs Misery" 30 acres

- Reference: Essex Co Deed Book B (1728-1793) Folio 174-175 (CESRD001)
- Catalog significance: LATEST John Cooper Judge-of-CCP attestation = 12 Apr 1735 = 3 years AFTER his Nov 1732 will date per K.3 v213 — suggests either (a) John Cooper's death date later than indexed-1732 will (will may have been written 1732 but probate effective post-1735), OR (b) this is a SECOND-generation John Cooper Judge-of-CCP (= son or nephew of K.3 John); OR (c) date misread. Per K.3 actual NJA Vol 30 abstract: 'Proved March 11, 1736' = will was proved (entered probate) March 1736, but death date NOT explicit in abstract. The 12 Apr 1735 Judge-of-CCP attestation is consistent with John Cooper still being alive at that date with death falling between April 1735 and March 1736.

- Survey type: Bank Lott (= waterfront extension of his "front Lott" in Perth Amboy)
- Reference: O (EJ) Folio 222 (PEASJ003)
- Catalog significance: ** Thomas Cooper named "one of the proprietors" of East New Jersey = top-tier landowner with proprietary-share rights. Bank Lott parallel to his existing Perth Amboy front lot = waterfront extension along Water Street to Low Water Mark. NEW catalog person stub warranted** — possibly Thomas Cooper of Yorkshire Eng holding 1/24 East Jersey proprietary share (which would explain the absence of acreage = a proprietor-class lot rather than tenant survey); or a different American-resident Thomas Cooper.

Follow-ups
- [ ] ** Pull primary-source K.5 deed body** = S2 (EJ Surveys) Folio 83-84 — done 23 May 2026 via View PDF; transcribed at K.5.
- [] NOT AVAILABLE ONLINE — Pull Folio 274 of Liber 1 Part B (EJ) = the 15 Jul 1676 John Cooper of Long Island transfer-of-deed (Record 21). CONFIRMED 2026-05-23 by direct maintainer test of both View PDF links from NJSA Cooper-search for Records 5 + 21: both links resolve to the same Folio 65 image. Folio 274 is NOT imaged online and NOT orderable (= records 5 + 21 have no "Select" column in the NJSA search result, so paid-order path is unavailable). Manuscript Record 21 verbatim cannot be captured via online or paid request. Acquisition path now requires either (a) in-person NJ Archives research trip + physical Liber 1 Part B Folio 274 pull, OR (b) wait for NJSA to digitize additional folios from this Liber in a future update. Catalog state for Record 21 remains at NJSA-index-abstract level (= names + roles + date are known; manuscript verbatim is not).
- [x] ** Pull I (EJ) Folio 373-374 = 1708 Beef Point Newark Caleb Ball deed witnessed by John Cooper (Record 6). ** COMPLETE 2026-05-23 — both folio 373 (= via the earlier I.372-373 pull) and folio 374 (= via direct Record 6 "View PDF" link, separate file (image held in the family archive)) downloaded. Full verbatim with John Cooper witness signature + Caleb Ball / Sarah Ball signatures + Wm Sandford acknowledgment 5 Sept 1708 captured.
- [ ] ** Pull Essex Co Deed Book B manuscripts for all Judge-of-CCP records (Records 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20 — 9 records) = all "Available NJ Archives microfilm only" = trip required OR paid request. Highest-priority single record: Record 18 (19 Mar 1712 Peter Sonmans deed)** because Peter Sonmans cross-links to the 1766 K.6 Daniel-Jr-Stirling-Anderson-Benjamin Cooper Horse Pound Brook conveyance = primary-source-locks Sonmans-Cooper-Alexander multi-generational land-syndicate network.
- [ ] ** Resolve Judge-of-CCP date discrepancy** vs. K.3 1732 testator. K.4 Record 14 (12 Apr 1735) shows John Cooper still active as Judge 3 years after the 16 Nov 1732 will date. K.3 NJA Vol 30 abstract gives 'Proved March 11, 1736' = will proved 3+ years after writing, but death date NOT explicit. Hypothesis: John Cooper wrote his will 16 Nov 1732, remained alive as Judge through April 1735, died between April 1735 and March 1736 (when will was proved). Verify by pulling NJA Vol 30 p.108 manuscript actual proving-language.
- [ ] ** Identify Thomas Cooper "one of the Proprietors"** (Record 25) — = top-tier Cooper proprietor 1700-1702. Possibly Thomas Cooper of Yorkshire Eng (held 1/24 EJ proprietary share); or American-resident Thomas Cooper. NEW catalog person stub warranted.
- [ ] ** Phoebe Cooper identification** (Record 12 + 24) — witness alongside John Cooper 12 Apr 1717. Likely wife/daughter of [p.215]; NEW catalog person stub warranted.
- [ ] ** Daniel Cooper (1765 witness) identification** (Record 2) — Daniel Sr age 70 OR Daniel Jr age 36 OR other.
