2026-09-09 — this parcel's onward sale is now catalogued, and it corrects a call here

[K.84] — on 23 January 1835 Israel Cooper sold this same half acre to Robert C. Shaw of Stillwater for $135, the deed reciting it as "the same lots of land the present grantor purchased of Samuel Cooper." That sentence is what identifies this entry's grantee with that grantor — the clerk says so, so it is not an inference. AND IT CORRECTS A METES CALL ABOVE. This entry transcribed the second and fourth calls as one chain & thirty seven links; [K.84] reads one chain and sixty seven links for the same parcel. Sixty-seven is right on the arithmetic: 3 chains × 1.67 chains = 0.50 acre, and [K.84] states "containing one half of an acre". Thirty-seven links would give 0.41 acre. Re-check this entry's image and correct the two calls.

2026-09-09 — where SAMUEL COOPER's title to this lot came from, and the gap that remains

[K.86] establishes that this half acre was part of [name.549] Thomas Parker's land, released in 1835 by his daughter [name.548] Sarah Karr. ⇒ Samuel Cooper held Parker land when he sold to Israel in 1831. But the conveyance by which he got it has not been found. [K.54] shows Samuel Cooper is NOT a grantee anywhere in the Warren index (1825-1911), and [K.25]'s Sussex grantee block carries no Samuel Cooper of this era. ⇒ He acquired it before 1825, by an unindexed route, or under a description not naming him. Look under PARKER in the grantor indexes — [K.86] t1.

2026-09-09 — THE THIRTY SEVEN CALL IS CORRECTED, AND THE MISSING GRANTOR IS IN THE DEED

Both results come from ONE re-read of the artifact this entry already cites — Deeds 1830-1831/img472 bk9 p242-243 …, page 242, read at 7× with autocontrast. Nothing new had to be acquired. The clause below sits eight lines under text transcribed in July; it was simply never read.

"degrees west one chain & sixty seven links to the place of beginning & contains half an acre of land, it being a lot the present grantor purchased of Robert Robertson."

1. The metes correction — the open task above is CLOSED

sixty seven links is confirmed at 7×. The task recorded here on 2026-09-08 — "Re-check this entry's image and correct the two calls" — is done. [K.84] was right and this entry was wrong. The body's two one chain & thirty seven links calls should read one chain & sixty seven links; they are left in place above rather than silently overwritten, per the corrections rule. The arithmetic settles it independently: 3 chains × 1.67 chains = 0.50 acre, matching this deed's own "contains half an acre" and [K.84]'s "containing one half of an acre." Thirty-seven links would give 0.41 acre.

2. Robert Robertson — the gap flagged below is ANSWERED

The section immediately above says of Samuel Cooper's title: the conveyance by which he got it has not been found. The deed names his grantor: [name.555] Robert Robertson. This inserts a previously unknown owner into the chain of title:

[name.549] Thomas Parker → [gap] → Robert Robertson → [gap] → [p.115] Samuel Cooper → [p.2052] Israel Cooper (this deed) → Robert C. Shaw ([K.84]), with [name.548] Sarah Karr formerly Parker releasing her inherited interest to Shaw ([K.86])

It does NOT close the Parker question — it moves it. How Robertson got it from a Parker heir is unrecorded here, and [K.54] remains clear that Samuel Cooper is a grantee nowhere in the Warren index 1825-1911. The search now runs under ROBERTSON, not under Cooper.

3. How the page was reached, and a numbering trap worth knowing

This deed is in the FamilySearch FULL-TEXT corpus and comes up on a plain search for "Israel Cooper" — which is how it surfaced again today. But full-text cites it differently from this entry. Full-text opens it as DGS 8355703 Item 2 (“Deeds, Warren county: Warren. Deeds 1831–1832”), images 143–144 of 294; this entry cites the whole-film numbering, images 471–472. Same frames, two numbering schemes — the item view restarts at 1. Do not file a second copy under the item numbers; two duplicate downloads were made today and deleted.

2026-09-22 — the signature block is now CROP-VERIFIED, and both grantors signed

The body above records the subscriptions from a July 2026 read with no magnification noted — i.e. below the RULE ZERO-B floor. Re-cropped at 2.8× (720×150 px of img472, page 242) and confirmed:

Samuel Cooper (Seal) · Sarah Cooper (Seal)

Both written out in full, with scroll seals, and NO his/mark annotation on either. It is the recorder's copy, so both names are in the clerk's hand; what is evidential is the absence of the mark form, which this register supplies when it is wanted. Why it was re-read: [K.105] made literacy an identity discriminator in this family, so every Cooper execution line became a test. The result here is consistency, not proof — this Samuel signs, and so does the Samuel who mortgaged land in Crawford County, Ohio four years later ([K.105]). See the full result set at [K.105]. And the notable one is SARAH. A wife releasing dower commonly marks; this one signs. ⇒ [p.2083] was literate too — which is the only thing this catalog knows about her beyond her name and her husband.
