Index columns: FAMILY | GIVEN NAMES | GRANTORS (= seller) | Vol./Page | Date | LOCATION. ("al" = et al; "ux" = et uxor/wife; "Shff" = sheriff; "Admr"/"Exr" = administrator/executor; "Trus" = trustee.)
THE LOCATION COLUMN GIVES THE LAND'S TOWNSHIP, NOT ANY PARTY'S RESIDENCE.
Established on the sister index [K.53], where three pulled instruments settled it
— including one whose grantor is "John Cooper of EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA" under a
Greenwich location ([K.112]), and one whose Mansfield row turned out to be a Kingwood,
Hunterdon grantor ([K.107]), a misreading that produced a phantom second wife for [p.12].
⇒ Never write a residence into a person file from this column. Use it
to locate the LAND; pull the deed for the residence. The full table is at [K.53].

Notes (identifications only; parentage conclusions live in [p.112]/[pr.17])
- Bk 9 p.241 grantee = Israel Cooper ← Samuel Cooper ux (Independence, 14 Nov 1831) — the buyer side of the Cooper-to-Cooper deed whose grantor side is in [K.53]; full verbatim deed at K.55. Samuel + wife "Sally" (=Sarah) → Israel, $100, land in Independence adjoining Thomas Parker.
- John Cooper BUYS in Independence, 1860 — 50/201 (← Ellen Hart) + 50/203 (← Samuel Hart), both Ind Twp, 7 Feb 1860. This John is alive and buying in 1860, so he is not the Greenwich "John Cooper" (whose estate was being sold off from 1852 — see [K.53]). A live John Cooper acquiring Independence land is a candidate for our John [p.113] (or a son "John Jr"); it is the only our-cluster-plausible entry in the whole grantee block. Both deeds pulled + read → full verbatim in K.56: John Cooper of Independence bought ~20 acres of Hart-family land ($122.98 + $345; deeds dated 1857 & 1855). Next test: 1860 Independence census real-estate value.
- "Elcey C." Cooper (65/102, 1866) = Elsie (Stackhouse) Cooper, Joseph [p.112]'s widow — CONFIRMED → K.57. The deed names her "of Independence" (matching [D.469]'s "Else Cooper, widow, 60"); she + Euphenia Fell bought a 5-ac Hope life estate, remainder to her son "Marcus R. Cooper" (most likely Robert Marshall Cooper [p.165]). So Joseph's widow was still acquiring property in 1866.
- Benjamin B. Cooper is a major Warren landowner on both sides of the index (buys and sells extensively, 1835–1868, across Greenwich/Ind/Hope/Belvidere/Oxford) — a distinct, well-landed Cooper, not to be conflated with our Independence tenant cluster.
- Mahlon C. [p.584] buys in Hope 1859 (48/257) — matches his grantor sale (55/222, [K.53]).
The headline finding (analysis → [pr.17]/[p.112])
Cross-checking both Warren indexes: our core Independence cluster's two adult men — Joseph [p.112] and Robert [p.114] — appear NOWHERE in the Warren deed indexes 1825–1911, as either grantor or grantee. They neither bought nor sold Warren land. This is strong (not conclusive) evidence they were landless / tenant farmers, consistent with the census picture ([D.4]/[D.40]). The only cluster land activity is Samuel↔Israel (9/241, 1831) and possibly John-of-Independence buying in 1860 (50/201-203).

Follow-ups
- Pull Warren Deeds Bk 50 pp.201 & 203 (John Cooper ← Ellen/Samuel Hart, Ind, 1860) — test whether this John = our John [p.113].
- Pull Warren Deeds Bk 65 p.102 (Elcey C. + Marcus R. Cooper ← N.R. Dell, Hope, 1866) — is "Elcey C." the widow Elsie (Stackhouse)?
2026-09-08 — the Israel row now attaches to a person file
Israel <- Saml Cooper ux, 9/241, 14 Nov 1831, Ind Twp is [p.2052] Israel Cooper, or a same-named kinsman — the person file was created 2026-09-07 from [F.278]. Deed read verbatim at [K.55]; the identity question is argued at [p.2052].
2026-09-09 — THIS REEL IS ONLY A-D. The grantee index is THREE reels.
DGS 007896859 (film 960724) is Grantee index, A-D — which is why Cooper is on it. It does NOT contain the rest of the alphabet. Per catalog koha:221149: A-D = 960724 / 7896859 · E-R = 960725 / 7903163 · S-Z = 960726 / 7903164 (331 images).
Relevant because [K.84] hands the catalog a new name to chase — Robert C. Shaw, who bought [p.2052] Israel Cooper's half acre in 1835 and adjoining land from Jacob T. Sharp. Shaw is on the S-Z reel; bearings taken 2026-09-09 put him before image 25 (image 25 = page 14, Se-/Si-; image 40 = page 44, Skinner). See [p.2052] t5.
