Result: FOUND -> [D.865]: the whole household of NINE at Andover, household 117, Main St, rented at $12. ONE PLATE CLOSED FOUR SEPARATE WORKLIST GAPS -- Jean Kathryn (Cooper) Kilpatrick, Laura Bell (Cooper) Taylor, Elizabeth Louise (Cooper) Maher and Living each carried an independent '1940 census, no search recorded' -- and covered Frederick William Cooper and Gary R Cooper in passing. The lesson is the one the sweep keeps re-learning: a child's census gap is never the child's, it is the household's.

?name=Carl_Cooper&count=50 - 316 rows over 7 pages; PAGE 1 READ, which is where the exact-match CARL Coopers sit (the set drifts to CAROL Cooper from about row 23 onward, so the Carl band is complete within page 1). (1) 'Carl O Cooper | Nov 1977 | North Haledon, Passaic | Evelyn M Handler | certificate 46226' -> opened, image downloaded, filed, read on three
ratable_stitch.py stitches = [C.162]. The row reads HANDLER | EVELYN | M | COOPER | CARL | O | 46226 | 1630 | 11/77.
THE MARRIAGE LASTED WEEKS. 11/77 is month-only; he died 8 December 1977 [J.157]. ⇒ Between one and five weeks. The obituary's 'about two weeks before his death' was family report; it is now bounded by a record.
AND SHE IS INDEXED UNDER TWO SURNAMES IN TWO DIFFERENT VOLUMES - HANDLER (H-O) and FORBES (A-G, Ancestry record 1085160209) - with the identical certificate 46226, month and place. One marriage, filed twice: the State's practice for a bride married before. Which is maiden is NOT established and is not guessed; see Evelyn M. Cooper, the stub created for her in this pass.
PLACE AND DATE ARE CODED. 'PLACE OF MARR.' holds 1630, a four-digit code, not a town; 'North Haledon' is Ancestry's decode, recorded as such. It agrees with [J.157], which has him dying at Paterson 'of North Haledon'.

(3) 'Carl O Cooper | Sep 1950 | Newton, Sussex | Nancy A Deleu' - his first marriage, [C.161], found an hour earlier by the bride's surname. ?name=_Deleu&count=50 - surname only, NO given name and NO year, because Deleu is rare enough that the whole surname is a readable set. The engine reports 2,845 rows, but that count is an artefact: it folds in DeLeo, Delea, Deley, DeLeon and Delia. The true Deleu rows are about a dozen and they RANK FIRST; page 1 was read and the Deleu block is complete within it. A surname-only search also survives a mangled given name, which an exact Nancy_Deleu search would not.Result: FOUND - AND THE SAME SEARCH RETURNED BOTH OF HER MARRIAGES, NEITHER OF WHICH THE CATALOG HAD DATED.
(1) 'Nancy A Deleu | Sep 1950 | Newton, Sussex, New Jersey | Carl O Cooper | certificate 33670' -> opened, image downloaded, filed and read on three
ratable_stitch.py stitches = [C.161]. The row reads DELEU NANCY A | COOPER CARL O | 33670 | 19604 | 09 | 50.
The PLACE column holds a five-digit CODE (19604), not a town name - 'Newton' is Ancestry's decode and is recorded as such, not as a reading. It is independently corroborated: [J.529] has her at Newton 'for many years', and her 1978 remarriage is indexed there too.
SEPTEMBER 1950 AGREES WITH THE OBITUARY TO THE MONTH. [J.538] called Carl 'her husband of 27 years' at his death in December 1977; Sep 1950 -> Dec 1977 is 27 years and 3 months. Two sources 55 years apart, neither derived from the other. And state file no. 33670 makes the RETURN orderable - it would name both sets of parents.
(2) 'Nancy A Deleu | Aug 1978 | Newton, Sussex, New Jersey | Donald M Rouse | certificate 38708' (Bride Index 1978, surname range A-D). THIS EXPLAINS A LOOSE END THE CATALOG HAD WRITTEN DOWN AND NOT SOLVED: her NUMIDENT [F.355] shows she used the surname ROUSE as well as Cooper, and nothing said why. She remarried eight months after Carl's death in December 1977.
(2) IS AN INDEX READING ONLY - the image was NOT downloaded and no entry was made, so it is recorded here as a search result rather than as a catalogued record. It is a deliberate stop: a second husband of a married-in spouse is outside the Joseph Cooper sweep's scope, and RULE ZERO-C is better left undone than half-done.
