Transcription and notes
Source: Genealogical Society of New Jersey, Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey, "Records of the Harlingen (Millstone) Reformed Dutch Church" (serialized across Vols 15–17). On disk: (image held in the family archive) (63 pp). This is the GSNJ printed magazine transcription of the same Harlingen register that [F.176] indexes (Ancestry coll. 6961) and [M.15]/[F.68] abstract (Skillman, NYG&B Vol 40, 1909).
Why this entry exists (sweep result, not new data)
Swept 2026-07-11 (todo item: "sweep GMNJ Vols 15–17 Harlingen for Cooper/Kuper") via full-text search of all 63 pages for Cooper / Kuyper / Kuiper / Kuper / Cuper / Cuyper / Creesje / Runj. Every Cooper/Kuper hit was already catalogued (F.176 + M.15 + p.516). This entry records the GMNJ printed transcription as an independent 4th witness to those data, captures its verbatim spellings, and documents that it adds NO new Cooper baptism — so the PDF need not be re-swept.
Data from the document [verbatim] — the Cooper/Runyon rows
① Members received — confession of faith (GMNJ p. 4):
September 11, 1728 — Received on Confession — Creesje Runjen
(= [p.148 Grace Runyon Cooper]'s admission; the same 11 Sept 1728 confession abstracted as "Lucresia Runyon" in [M.15]/[F.68]. Daniel Sr himself is not in the received-members list here.)
② Baptism register (GMNJ p. 63, "Records of the Harlingen Reformed Dutch Church"):
Creesje Runjen, wife of Daniel Kuper, was baptized September 11, 1728, on confession of faith
Baptized March 26, 1729 … Daniel Kuper / Creesje Runjen … (among that day's parent-couples)
(= adult-baptism note for Grace + the [p.79 Daniel Cooper Jr] 26 Mar 1729 baptism, parents Daniel Kuper × Creesje Runjen.)
③ Baptism register (GMNJ p. 88):
Baptized August 16, 1732 — CHILD Agnietje — PARENTS Daniel Cuper / Creesje Runjen — WITNESSES (none)
(= [p.516 Agnietje (Agnes) Cooper] 1732–1737, image-verified in [F.176]. Column-read confirmed off the rendered page: child "Agnietje," parents "Daniel Cuper / Creesje Runjen," no witnesses.)
Notes (identifications; not verbatim)
- Surname spellings in this transcription: Kuper (1729) / Cuper (1732) for the father; Runjen for Grace's surname (cf. register-image "Reijnjen" [F.176], Skillman "Runyon" [M.15]). All the same family — corroborates the Kuyper/Kuper/Cuper↔Cooper interchange and "Runjen/Reijnjen"↔Runyon.
- Grace's given name "Creesje" here (not "Lucresia") — matches the register image [F.176] and the [p.148] Lucresia/Creesje/Grace = one-woman resolution (this printed transcription uses the Dutch diminutive "Creesje" even for the 1728 confession that Skillman standardized to "Lucresia").
- NO new Cooper baptism. This transcription's Cooper coverage ends at the 16 Aug 1732 Agnietje entry. It contains no baptism for Daniel Sr × Grace's later children (Peter ~1735, John ~1738, Benjamin 1741, Rosannah ~1743, George ~1745, Providence ~1748, Ann ~1750) — consistent with the family leaving/lapsing Harlingen after 1732–33 (see [F.176] "7-baptism gap"). ⇒ this PDF is not a route to Benjamin's baptism.
- Resolves the phantom "Anna 1733" (2026-07-11): this GMNJ transcription's Agnietje (16 Aug 1732) is the same child that Skillman's NYG&B Vol 40 abstract ([M.15]) rendered as "Anna, dau. Daniel Cooper" — Skillman had been mis-read as recording a separate "Anna ~Oct 1733." The three transcriptions of this one baptism (register image "Agnietje," GMNJ "Agnietje," Skillman "Anna") confirm it is a single child = [p.516]. No "Anna 1733" daughter exists.
- Runyon-family occurrence (not Cooper): GMNJ p. 87 — a baptism (child Marietje) to Joris Merlet × "Rutsifer" Runjen — a Runyon woman married into the Merlet family = Grace's extended Piscataway/Somerset kin (cf. [p.148] Runyon map + [G.240] Runyon burying ground, which is the p. 41 cemetery transcription bundled in this same PDF). Peripheral; not separately filed.
