What this document records
π― the finding the half acre was parker land
The lot Israel Cooper Israel Cooper sold in [K.84] was part of THOMAS PARKER's land, and this is his daughter releasing her inherited share of it. Read at 4.5Γ: β "β¦a certain lot of land herein described Situate lying and being in the township of Independence in the county of Warren and State aforesaid and is the same lot of land conveyed by Israel Cooper to Robert C Shaw in the annexed deed of conveyance being part of a lot of land that I inherited of my Father Thomas Parker Containing half an acre of landβ¦" Thomas Parker is the abutter named in ALL THREE Israel Cooper deeds β [K.83] (1802), [K.55] (1831) and [K.84] (1835). He is no longer just a boundary call. He is the source of title to the ground, and he had heirs.
The parties verbatim
Margin: Sarah Karr / To / Robert C Shaw. "Know all men by these presents that I Sarah Karr formerly Sarah Parker now of the township of Hardwick in the county of Warren in the State of New Jersey for and in consideration of the sum of two Dollars good and lawful money of the United States to me in hand well and truly paid by Robert Shaw of the township of Stillwater in the County of Sussex β¦ have remised released conveyed and forever quit claimed β¦ unto the said Robert C Shaw and to his heirs and assigns forever all my right interest and claim whatsoeverβ¦" Signed Sarah Karr with a seal; witness John Stinson β the same witness as [K.84]. "In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this 25 of Feb 1835." Recorded 3 March 1835, the same day as [K.84]. A clerk's interlineation is noted: "The word sarah first written between the 809 lines."
π΄ what this is not and it corrects this catalog from an hour earlier
[name.548] was created 2026-09-09 wondering whether Sarah Karr might be Israel Cooper's widow, daughter or heir β because she released a claim to his buyer on the day of his sale. SHE IS NOT. She is a PARKER. The deed says so in terms: "formerly Sarah Parker β¦ that I inherited of my Father Thomas Parker." β The release names no Cooper relative, and the hope that it might has to be given up. Recorded because the guess was written down before the document was read, and the document disposes of it.
β οΈ and it does not touch the no wife finding either way
Do not let this instrument be mistaken for the dower release missing from [K.84]. It is a HEIR'S QUITCLAIM, not a wife's dower release β a different instrument answering a different defect in title. A wife's dower is released by her joining her husband's deed and being privately examined; an heir's outstanding share is cleared by a separate quitclaim like this one. β [K.84]'s finding stands untouched: Israel Cooper conveyed alone, with no wife releasing dower, and the natural readings remain widower or unmarried.
π the chain of title to the half acre now nearly complete
Assembled from [K.86], [K.84], [K.55] and [K.54]: Thomas Parker (died before 1835) β his heirs, including daughter Sarah (later Karr) β [by an instrument not yet found] β Samuel Cooper Samuel Cooper β Israel Cooper Israel Cooper (2 May 1831, $100, [K.55]) β [name.546] Robert C. Shaw (23 Jan 1835, $135, [K.84]), with Sarah's outstanding share quitclaimed for $2 a month later ([K.86]). THE MISSING LINK IS PARKER-HEIRS β SAMUEL COOPER, and it is NOT in either county index. [K.54] shows Samuel Cooper is not a grantee anywhere in the Warren index (1825-1911), and [K.25]'s Sussex grantee block carries no Samuel Cooper of this era. β He acquired it before 1825, by an unindexed route, or under a description that does not name him β see t1.
β‘ why this matters beyond one house lot
[A.168] warned in terms that a Cooper could sit inside a PARKER proceeding and never reach a Cooper index β "Israel Cooper Israel Cooper's neighbours in [K.83] are Thomas Parker and Judge Kinsey, and a Cooper could appear inside a Parker or Kinsey matter without ever reaching the index." That caution is now a documented connection rather than a hypothetical. Thomas Parker's land descended to heirs, and a piece of it reached the Coopers. β THE PARKER ESTATE IS WORTH THE SAME TREATMENT THE COOPER NAME GOT β see t2.
Transcription and notes
The half acre [p.2052] Israel Cooper sold in [K.84] was part of THOMAS PARKER's land β the man named as abutter in all three of Israel's deeds. This is Parker's daughter releasing her inherited share of it for $2, five weeks after Israel's sale, to the same buyer.
"Know all men by these presents that I Sarah Karr formerly Sarah Parker now of the township of Hardwick in the county of Warren β¦ do remise release convey and forever quit claim unto the said Robert C Shaw β¦ all my right interest and claim whatsoever β¦ of in or out of all and every part and parcel of a certain lot of land β¦ in the township of Independence β¦ and is the same lot of land conveyed by Israel Cooper to Robert C Shaw in the annexed deed of conveyance being part of a lot of land that I inherited of my Father Thomas Parker Containing half an acre of land."
It is NOT a Cooper relative. [name.548] was created an hour before this deed was read, asking whether Sarah Karr might be Israel's widow or daughter. She is a Parker. The guess is recorded and disposed of.
And it is NOT the dower release missing from [K.84] β an heir's quitclaim and a wife's dower release are different instruments. That finding stands.
The chain, the missing link, and the two follow-ups are in coverage: and todo:.
