- I.124 Records of the Town of Newark NJ 1666-1836 (1864 Newark Historical Society edition; 314 pp; on disk at Books/Newark Town Records 1666-1836.pdf) — 2026-05-23 grep sweep yields 47 Cooper hits across 21 pages. Index page 304 confirms ONLY TWO adult Coopers in Newark 1666-1740: John Cooper (active 1697-1717+, Town Clerk + Constable + Assessor + Freeholder + Rate Maker) + Samuel Cooper (active 1712-1730s+, Ensign → Lieutenant + Assessor + Rate Maker). NO Daniel Cooper anywhere in Newark Town Records 1666-1740. These are the SAME two Cooper-brothers attested at NJA Vol 30 p.108-109 (John d. Nov 1732 testator; Samuel Esq. d. 2 Aug 1737 INTESTATE, widow Experience Cooper administratrix). Result: Hypothesis A (Newark Puritan migration → Daniel Sr) is NEITHER POSITIVELY supported nor disproved by Newark records. Daniel Sr (b. 1695) is NOT himself in Newark records (= not an active adult in Newark, consistent with him being a CHILD of a Newark Cooper if hypothesis A holds). The OPEN question: did Samuel Cooper Esq. have a son named Daniel? Samuel died INTESTATE so no will-body children-list exists; resolution requires Samuel's administration paper at NJ State Archives (= File number TBD) OR Newark First Presbyterian + Mountain Society baptism registers 1690-1700.

- K.1 NJ State Archives Early Land Records 1650-1900s database — Hunterdon Co. NJ Cooper-surname search, 29 records 1713-1816. 2 catalog-defining finds: (1) Daniel Cooper (Weaver) of Hunterdon, 14 Dec 1720, grantee from Reziah Runyon (Yeoman) of Piscataway — Lot No. 2 on Passaic River, Hunterdon Co. — at minimum a Reziah-Runyon + Daniel-Cooper land transfer 6 years BEFORE Daniel Sr × Grace Runyon's 17 Apr 1726 marriage; primary-source candidate for Daniel Sr's first land acquisition + first attestation of WEAVER trade; F-2 (EJ) Folio 33. Cross-link [K.2](K.2.yaml). (2) John Cooper of Newark, 25 Mar 1730, grantee with Joseph Bonnel of Elizabethtown — 1250 acres in 4 Lots in Hanover Twp between Passaic and Whippany Rivers — primary-source candidate for the same John Cooper who witnessed the 1718 Hanover First Presby founding deed ([F.162](../F-Church-Vital/F.162.yaml) / [p.215](../../people/p.215%20John%20Cooper%20of%201718%20Whippanong.md)); same 'John Cooper of Newark' who d. 1732 per NJA Vol 30 p.108 abstract (per [pr.60](../../projects/pr.60%20NJA%201670-1817%20Cooper-testator%20sweep.md)). Cross-link [K.3](K.3.yaml). Other 27 records cover Benjamin B. Cooper (5 records 1816-1817 = different Benjamin = fam.3 Camden Quaker line); John Cooper of 'Above the Delaware Falls' (5 records 1713-1715, Musconetcong River area); Richard Cooper (4 records 1715-1754); Mahlon Cooper of Amwell (4 records 1785-1801); Joseph Cooper of Burlington × Elizabeth Ham (3 records 1773 Kingwood = fam.3 expansion); plus singletons (Jacob 1765, Jane 1785, [Unrecorded] 1760, William 1716).
- K.3 NJSA Early Land Records — John Cooper of Newark + Joseph Bonnel of Elizabethtown — Grantees from John Alford of Boston — 25 March 1730 — DEED for 1250 acres in 4 Lots in Hanover Township, between the Rivers Passaick and Whippaning, Essex County and Hunterdon County. Includes Lot No. 13, Lot No. 20, Lot No. 94 on the Branches of Delaware River, and Lot No. 120 on the Lower side of Pophannunck Branch. Essex Co Deed Book B (1728-1793) Folio 83-84 (CESRD001). STRONG CANDIDATE for [p.215 John Cooper of 1718 Whippanong](../../people/p.215%20John%20Cooper%20of%201718%20Whippanong.md) = the same John Cooper attested as witness on the 1718 Hanover First Presbyterian Church founding deed ([F.162](../F-Church-Vital/F.162.yaml)) — same Hanover-Twp geography + 12 years later + 'of Newark' confirms F.162 narrative that 1710 Whippany settlers came partly from Newark. ALSO LIKELY = the same John Cooper of Newark who died Nov 1732 with will at NJA Vol 30 p.108 per [pr.60 sweep](../../projects/pr.60%20NJA%201670-1817%20Cooper-testator%20sweep.md) Tab A = 3-document chain primary-source-locking same individual across 1718 deed witness + 1730 deed purchase + 1732 probate. Critical for resolving [pr.2 Daniel Sr father search](../../projects/pr.2%20Daniel%20Sr%20father%20search.md) — if this John Cooper had a son Daniel born ~1695, that primary-source-locks Daniel Sr's parentage.
- K.4 NJ State Archives Early Land Records 1650-1900s database — Essex Co. NJ Cooper-surname search, 25 records 1676-1817. 3 catalog-defining finds: (1) Cooper, Daniel (Grantee) 6 Oct 1744 — 26.25 acres Between First Mountain and Second Mountain at Green Brook Falls (Essex/Somerset boundary), FROM JAMES ALEXANDER (Surveyor General; father of Lord Stirling) — primary-source-LOCKING the Cooper-Alexander direct land transaction 10 years BEFORE Daniel Jr's 1754 Deputy Surveyor career begins. Cross-link [K.5](K.5.yaml) for dedicated transcription. (2) John Cooper as 'Judge of the Court of Common Pleas' in 10+ Newark Essex Co. deeds 1712-1735 = primary-source-attests substantial Newark judicial-civic role for [p.215 John Cooper of 1718 Whippanong](../../people/p.215%20John%20Cooper%20of%201718%20Whippanong.md) (already-cataloged 1730 Hanover Twp grantee [K.3](K.3.yaml); 1732 Newark testator NJA Vol 30 p.108 per [pr.60](../../projects/pr.60%20NJA%201670-1817%20Cooper-testator%20sweep.md) Tab A). (3) John Cooper 'of Long Island' 17 Jun + 15 Jul 1676 Elizabethtown — earliest documented John Cooper in NJ-of-LI-origin = [fam.12 Long Island Southampton Cooper kindred](../../families/fam.12%20Long%20Island%20Southampton%20Cooper%20kindred.md) candidate (per Justus J Cooper line discovery v212). Other records: Daniel Cooper Witness Elizabethtown 1765; David Cooper Chain Bearer 1803 Newark; Phoebe Cooper Witness Mountain Purchase 1717; Thomas Cooper 'One of the Proprietors' Bank Lott Perth Amboy 1700-1702 = NEW East Jersey Proprietor-tier Cooper. Note: K.1 Hunterdon search record 16 (= 25 Mar 1730 John Cooper of Newark + Joseph Bonnel 1250-acre deed) = K.3 dedicated entry — also appears in this Essex search as Record 9.
