Searched for:firstname=Grover, lastname=Cooper, died 1900 +/- 10 years, and deliberately NO location token. 14 matching records, all 14 read. (link)Result: NO MEMORIAL LOCATED, bounded. Of the 14, only two are a real Grover Cooper - Grover C. 1891-1908 (Spencer Mills Cemetery, Kent Co., Michigan, memorial 60217458) and Grover G. 1889-1890 (Shelby Memorial Cemetery, Shelby Co., Missouri, 154958946). The other twelve matched on a bareGinitial (G. B., G. F., G. L., G. N., G. T. Jr., G. W. and so on), in England, South Africa, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee. None is in New Jersey. THE MISSOURI CHILD IS DEFINITIVELY EXCLUDED, and that matters because he also surfaces as an Ancestry Public Member Photo hit ("Grover G Cooper, May 27 1889 - Feb 16 1890") and reads like a tempting answer to a boy who vanishes. He is FamilySearch GJXD-R35, son of John Hughes Cooper of Black Creek Township, Shelby Co., Missouri. Our Grover was alive and enumerated in 1895 ([E.36]), so a child who died in February 1890 cannot be him. WHY THE LOCATION TOKEN WAS LEFT OFF, and this is a caught error rather than a precaution: the search was first run withlocation=New+Jersey&locationId=state_31, a guessed id. It returned one memorial while the chip on the page still read "New Jersey, USA" - and the memorial was in Omaha, Douglas County, NEBRASKA. Find a Grave does not rewrite its own location chip to match the id, so there is no tell at all; that result was discarded unread and the place token dropped entirely, leaving a name-and-year search with nothing to get wrong.

Searched for: NOT RUN as a search for him. He was found inside a sheet pulled for someone else, and the only Ancestry query that touched him was the collection-1054 browse that confirmed the household's six indexed names (surname Cooper, Sussex County, Andover, 1,794 results of which the six consecutive Cooper rows were read).
Result: The index reads the household as Rosella C, Sarah M, Warren E, Alfred A, Albert A and Grover C Cooper, in that order - which corroborates the stitch reading of his name independently of it, and is the whole value of the query.

Abandoned in favour of the collection-scoped searches below, which is what the complete-county method prescribes. Recorded in [[feedback_ancestry_place_recipe_when_names_are_garbled]]. The one row in it that was his county was the 1895 state census already held as [E.36].

Searched for: THE COMPLETE-COUNTY METHOD, FOUR TIMES - surname
Cooper, no given name, no birth year, Lived In a verified county id, exact. Collections read off the site: 7602 (1900 federal census) and 7884 (1910). Place ids sussex-new+jersey-usa_2837 and warren-new+jersey-usa_3036, both already in (archive file). Every page range was read back off the returned page and the ranges tile: 1900 Sussex 1-50 / 51-100 / 101-108 of 108; 1900 Warren 1-50 / 51-77 of 77; 1910 Sussex 1-50 / 51-100 / 101-140 of 140; 1910 Warren 1-50 / 51-79 of 79. 404 rows in all, read to the end. (link)Result: NULL, AND IT IS A BOUNDED ONE. There is no Grover Cooper of any spelling in any of the four lists. The 1900 Sussex list does hold his family: Warren Edgar Cooper Warren at dwelling 30 / family 31 with Carrie T. and an infant son Adolth; Alfred L. Cooper Alfred A. at dwelling 185 / family 188 with Sulella and a three-month-old Rosetta; Albert Alvin Cooper Albert A. at dwelling 184 / family 187 as stepson of Nelson Maines, with Rosetta C. (Sickles) Cooper Rosetta as the wife of that house. All four of those are already in the catalog as [D.654] and [D.880] from 24-25 October, so the sweep added no record - its whole value is the absence of a fifth Cooper where one was expected. THE LIMIT OF THE METHOD, and it is the reason this null is not final: a surname sweep cannot find a man whose surname was mis-indexed - the Gronso / Grouso / Goronso / Grones case of the same week. See the open loop at t3.

Searched for: Two searches. (a) The tree search, given name
Grover, surname Cooper, birth 1883-1891, birthplace New Jersey. (b) The decisive one - his probable father's own profile, L1YQ-HDW (Roderick Byanton Cooper), read for its children list, per t1(c). (link)Result: NULL BOTH WAYS, AND (b) IS THE ONE THAT COUNTS. L1YQ-HDW lists eight children by Rosetta C. Sickles (L1YQ-4YB): Ida Elizabeth 1862-1940 (LR45-9W1), Sarah Matilda 1865-1944 (LR4B-4BN), James W 1868 (LR4B-HD4), Margaret Luella 1870-1935 (KGJ5-BKG), Warren Edgar 1872-1938 (9NY6-3XM), Warren E. 1875 (LR4B-497), Albert Alvin 1878-1949 (GWTY-3K9) and Alfred M (L1YQ-FVJ). No Grover, and no ninth child of any name. So the one-world tree does not know him either, which means no other researcher has hung him on this family. (a) is not a usable null: the
birthLikePlace filter did not bite and returned 1,115,738 rows; of the twenty read, one was a New Jersey man (James Grover Cooper 1823-1884, Monmouth, L25K-HYF - not him). A side finding worth more than the null: LR4B-497 and 9NY6-3XM are one man - two profiles for Warren Edgar Cooper, carrying 1875 and 1872 against the 11 Nov 1874 the catalog settled on 24 October. keyword="Grover Cooper", date-start=1895-01-01, date-end=1912-12-31, location=us-nj. (link)Result: NOT A NULL - THE ENGINE DROPPED BOTH FILTERS, so no search of New Jersey 1895-1912 has happened. 425 matches whose own "locations with matches" sidebar led Missouri 65, Maine 46, Virginia 30, New York 25, California 20 with New Jersey nowhere in the top five, and whose decade histogram reported 1,600+ matches in 1980-1989 - inside a range ending in 1912. Page one was Atlanta, Buffalo, Augusta (Maine), Louisville and Detroit. The way to run it is paper-scoped, not place-scoped - pick the New Jersey Herald (Newton), which already supplies [J.305] for his brother. Left open at t4 rather than written up as a null.
genealogybank 2026-10-26 · NOT RUN.
Searched for: NOT RUN.
Result: NOT RUN, and recorded as such rather than left silent. The newspaper engines are indexed by date and town, and this man has no death year and no residence after 1895 - so there is no date window to search and the one place token available was just shown to be dropped by the sister engine. It is deferred until a death year exists, per the CLAUDE.md trigger rule (a changed birth or death year, or a changed residence, is what makes a newspaper search different). See t4.

Searched for: NOT APPLICABLE.
Result: NOT APPLICABLE and not run. The Google rule covers people who died from about 1995 on; a man born in the later 1880s who is already missing from the 1900 census is not a candidate for a web-archived obituary.
