Searched for: HIS THREE GAPS, none of which had a search recorded: the 1920 census, the 1950 census and the date of his marriage to Lorraine C.. SIGNED IN. 1950 (coll. 62308): (a) surname Cooper, NO given name, NO birth year, residence CORPUS CHRISTI, NUECES, TEXAS (exact) - he died there in 1955 at 4826 Kostoryz [F.313], so this is the complete indexed Cooper list for his own city; (b) given name Carl, surname Cooper, b. 1897 +/-3 in TEXAS - 56 rows, page 1 read; (c) surname Cooper, no given name, residence GREGG, TEXAS (exact) - where he was in 1940 [D.675] and where his son was in 1955. 1920 (coll. 6061): (d) surname Cooper, no given name, residence COMANCHE, TEXAS (exact). THIS COUNTY IS NEW AND IT IS NOT A GUESS: his son Carl Clay Jr. was BORN AT COMANCHE, COMANCHE CO., on 3 March 1921 Carl Clay Cooper Jr., so the family was there within fourteen months of the enumeration. Nobody had searched Comanche Co. before. MARRIAGE (coll. 60183, 'Texas, U.S., Select County Marriage Index, 1837-1965' - the collection that produced [C.153] for William G Cooper the same day): (e) Carl Cooper, marriage 1920 +/-5, Texas - 5 rows, all read; (f) the bride side, given name wildcard Loain, surname Cooper - 1 row.
Result: NULL ON ALL SIX, with two things worth keeping. (a) and (c) The Corpus Christi and Gregg Co. Cooper lists hold no Carl C. of his age. BUT GREGG CO. HELD HIS SON: "Carl C Cooper", 29, with wife Helen and sons William A, 3, and Carl S., 2 - the household already filed as [D.736], whose two sons had no p-links until today. See Living. (b) ONE UNRESOLVED CANDIDATE, AND IT IS WORTH NOT RE-FINDING FROM SCRATCH: "C C COOPER", 53, b. abt 1897 TEXAS, married, head, 7643 PARKDALE, DALLAS, in LIFE INSURANCE, 45 hours, private, with "Mrs C C Cooper", 51 (1950 census record 190406749, ED 259-264, page 5). C.C. is exactly how Carl Clay Cooper signs in the record set, the birth year and state are right, and his wife's age fits Lorraine (1897-1980). AGAINST IT: the family was at Kilgore, Gregg Co. in 1940 [D.675] and he died at Corpus Christi in 1955 in the AUTO PARTS trade [F.313], [J.401] - Dallas and life insurance fit neither end. The record's own Suggested panel is useless (it offers a Bert C Cooper and an Ollis O Cooper). NOT RESOLVED, NOT ASSERTED. What would settle it is a Dallas or Corpus Christi city directory for 1949-51, or the 1950 sheet's own handwriting if it spells the given name out. (d) Comanche Co. in 1920 holds nine Cooper households - W B/Jaenette, Will, P E, Fergus H, John B/Maud and four children, Connie M/Lela/Cecil, and the Arkansas-born Willie M/Picola at De Leon - and no Carl C. with a wife Loraine. The census was taken on 1 January 1920 and his son was born there in March 1921, so the family may simply have arrived during 1920; this does not exclude Comanche Co. as the place of the marriage. (e) and (f) No Cooper x Lorraine marriage is indexed. AND THIS COLLECTION IS 'SELECT' COUNTIES ONLY, so a null in it is not a null for Texas - the fuller 'Texas, U.S., County Marriage Records, 1817-1965' has not been searched. Her MAIDEN SURNAME is unknown, which is the real obstacle: a bride can only be found in this index under the name she married with. NEXT: the 1920 Eastland Co. image browse that Egbert Arthur Cooper already owes (father and son are the same household problem in that year), and Comanche/Eastland county marriage records 1918-1921 for the marriage.
