Ancestor's services (page 4)
"Serving as judge at least during the first ten years of the Revolution. 'Daniel Cooper nominated Justice of the Quorum Sept. 1, 1739. Renominated Mar. 28, 1749. Nominated Judge County of Morris N.J. Mar. 28, 1759. Renominated Judge County of Morris Apr. 2, 1768. Justice and Judge for over 40 years under the Colonial Government' New Jersey Archives Jersey men in the Revolutionary War. p. 360 New Jersey Records. New Jersey Archives Centennial History of Cincinnati. p. 812 See Supplementary Paper of National No. 32455 D.A.R."
NEW datum: "Mar. 28, 1759" nomination as Judge of Morris Co. (= between the standard 1749/1768 dates). Brode's 1923 list of dates differs from the 1932 book's "Sept. 1, 1739 / March 28, 1749 / April 2, 1768" by adding the 1759 nomination. Either Brode lost this detail by 1932 OR catalog should add 1759 to Daniel Sr's judicial chronology.
Source references for Daniel Sr family (page 5)
"Give below references, by volume and page, to the documentary or other authorities upon which you found your record. History of Morris Co. p 262-275 Descendants of Daniel Cooper and Grace Runyon. A family tree A.E. Cooper 1895 Thos. Halsey and his Descendants in America J.L. and E.D. Halsey 1895 pp. 174-218-351 First Settlers of Passaic Valley. Littell 1851 pp. 90-91, 264-265 Somerset Quarterly Vol. I, p. 155"
"Somerset Quarterly Vol. I, p. 155" = NEW source not in catalog. Likely Somerset County Historical Quarterly — published from ~1912 by Somerset Co. Hist. Soc. NJ.
Wives section (page 5)
"Give, if possible, the following data: My Revolutionary ancestor was married (1) to Grace Runyon at ___ Apr 17, 1726 (2) to Jane Westbrook at , 1 (3) to Grace Manning at , 1 (4) Mrs. Fanny Jones (5) Barbara Margaret Gibbs (6) Mrs. Hannah Martin"
CRITICAL CATALOG FINDING: Brode's 1923 application lists Barbara Margaret Gibbs (NOT "Barbaty-Margaret") with NO birth/death dates. The "Barbaty-" prefix in I.130 Brode 1932 p. 74 is therefore an OCR error or printing typo in the 1932 book — Brode's actual spelling was "Barbara Margaret Gibbs".
CRITICAL FOR SOURCE-TRACE: The b. 1738 d. 1789 datum is NOT in Brode's 1923 application. She acquired it sometime between 1923 (this application) and 1932 (book), from a source she did not cite on her DAR application form. The datum's origin remains untraced.
Children of Daniel Sr × Grace Runyon (page 5)

NEW datum: "Agnes b. May 12 1732" (= Brode 1932 has "May 1732" without specific day; 1923 application has specific day 12 May)
What this source establishes
1. Brode 1923 = original membership application; NN 122972
Brode joined DAR on this 1923 paper, with descent through Daniel Cooper Jr × Miss Conover (pre-Hankinson-correction). The application references National Number 32455 (= M.40 Lotta Ludlow Tyler 1890s) as supporting paper — = NN 32455 was Brode's family-reference baseline.
2. Barbara Gibbs birth/death dates UNTRACED
Brode wrote the wife's name only ("Barbara Margaret Gibbs") with NO dates. The "b. 1738 d. 1789" in her 1932 book was acquired in the intervening 9 years from an unrecorded source. The DAR 1923 paper does NOT solve the trace question. Remaining hypotheses: - Brode's 1931 supplemental paper (separate from this 1923 original; same NN 122972; we don't yet have it; if it exists for a Daniel-Sr-line ancestor, it could be ordered separately from DAR) - Personal correspondence with NJ Cooper descendants 1923-1932 - Cooper family Bible access - Brode's own inference from marriage date
3. Brode's spelling = "Barbara Margaret Gibbs" NOT "Barbaty-Margaret"
Catalog clarification: I.130 transcription of Brode's 1932 book quoted "Barbaty-Margaret Gibbs". The 1923 application form clearly reads "Barbara Margaret Gibbs". The discrepancy is either: - (a) OCR/typesetting error in 1932 book introduction - (b) Brode deliberately changed the spelling between 1923 (form) and 1932 (book) - (c) I.130 transcription read "Barbaty" where the text said "Barbara" — = transcription error in our catalog
Action item: re-examine the actual 1932 book scan at the relevant page (= via available NYPL scan) to verify which form Brode published. Likely (a) or (c).
4. "Miss Conover" attribution dated to 1923 (pre-Hankinson-correction adoption)
Brode's 1923 paper used the OLD belief that Daniel Jr's 1st wife was Miss Conover. By 1932 book, Brode had been forced to correct herself via A.E. Cooper 1898 NJHS article. This explains the famous Brode book quote on the Hankinson correction (= she was correcting her OWN DAR application 9 years prior).
5. New judicial chronology datum: "Mar. 28, 1759 Judge Morris Co."
Brode 1923 cites Daniel Sr nominated Judge of Morris Co. on 28 March 1759 (= between the standard 1749/1768 dates). This is NEW catalog data — should be added to p.1's judicial-service timeline.
6. New source citation: Somerset Quarterly Vol I p. 155
= NEW reference Brode used in 1923; likely Somerset County Historical Quarterly Vol 1 (~1912). Worth seeking for additional Daniel-Sr family content.

- M.41 DAR App Woodley M669245 — = 1989 most-recent applicant; cites Brode 1932 book as source
- I.130 Brode 1932 Ludlow-Ross Genealogy — = Brode's published genealogy 9 years AFTER this application; contains b. 1738 d. 1789 datum NOT present in 1923
- L.4 A.E. Cooper 1895 Family Tree — = explicitly cited by Brode 1923 as source
- I.4 Littell 1851 — = explicitly cited by Brode 1923

Follow-up
- Order Brode's 1931 Supplemental Paper if it exists for any Daniel-Sr-line ancestor — = could contain the b. 1738 d. 1789 source citation. Method: search DAR ancestor database for any other Cooper-side ancestor (Grace Runyon? Daniel Jr? Catherine Cooper Sr?) with associated app NN 122972
- Search for Somerset County Historical Quarterly Vol I (1912 or 1913) page 155 — = NEW source Brode cited
- Re-examine I.130 Brode 1932 p. 74 image to verify "Barbaty-" vs "Barbara" spelling
- Update p.1 Daniel Cooper Sr judicial-service timeline to add "Mar 28, 1759 Judge Morris Co." nomination per Brode 1923 application
- Update p.1 Children section Agnes 1732 entry = May 12 1732 (specific day per Brode 1923)
