Downloaded, filed and catalogued as [J.585]. The other seven are Bourbon (2), Butler (2), Harper, Shawnee and Crisfield - other women entirely. => Her obituary is still not found, and this search cannot be called a null for it: the phrase "Mrs. Joseph Cooper" is only one of the forms a notice could take, and her own given name was not tried.ancestry all 2026-10-26 · HIS MARRIAGE(S) IN NEW JERSEY, a gap the John Cooper worklist carried for both wives with "no search recorded". Joseph, surname Cooper, marriage 1865 +/- 10 (so 1855-1875, which covers the whole window in which a second marriage could fall - he had Elisabeth in 1860 and Catherine by 1870), residence Warren Co., New Jersey (place token warren-new+jersey-usa_3036, on the verified allow-list; the returned URL did not rewrite the slug). 34 results, page 1 read. (link)Result: NULL, AND IT IS A USEFUL NULL FOR THE ONE-WOMAN QUESTION. No Joseph Cooper marriage in Warren or Sussex County in that twenty-year window. Every indexed Joseph Cooper is somewhere else and marrying somebody else: Joseph B. Cooper Jr. x Elizabeth C. Kaighn (Gloucester, 1859), Joseph Cooper x Mary S. Scull (Salem, 1868 and 1869 - the same marriage indexed twice), Joseph Cooper x Fanny C. Sandford (Belleville, Essex, 1870) and Joseph Cooper x Jane McCormick (Essex, 1856, indexed three times). None is ours; the rest of the 34 are other Coopers entirely (Andrew J of Sussex 1875, J Harry of Sussex 1868, Ed J of Essex 1867, Annie J of Morris, John J of Hudson and Bergen, Mary J of Monmouth). HOW FAR IT REACHES, AND NOT FURTHER. It covers New Jersey only, and he had left for Iowa by 1870 - so a remarriage between the 1860 census and the 1870 one could perfectly well be a Clarke County, Iowa record, which this search cannot see. ⇒ It does not prove one woman; it removes the likeliest New Jersey route and makes Iowa the place to look. Todo t1.

The birthplace filter did not bind - the twenty rows returned are scattered across Indiana, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Mississippi, Georgia, Wisconsin and Tennessee - so this is a RANKED list, not a scoped one. On that page there is no Elizabeth or Eliza Cooper of the right profile in Iowa: the single Iowa row is Eliza B Cooper, husband John, Unionville, Appanoose Co., born New York - wrong county, wrong birthplace, wrong husband - and the only New-Jersey-born woman is at Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York. ⇒ Consistent with her NOT being enumerated apart from Joseph in 1870, which is what the one-woman reading predicts - but eleven pages were not read and the search was not properly scoped, so it corroborates nothing on its own. The right version of this search is the whole surname Cooper in Clarke County, Iowa in 1870. RUN, twenty minutes later - see the next row.**

Added to (archive file) and to the table in [[feedback_ancestry_place_recipe_when_names_are_garbled]]. Note it arrives as event=, not residence=, from that box. Joseph abt 1818 NJ with Catherine abt 1820 NJ, Edgar 1846 NJ, Athalia 1853 NJ, Alice 1849 Ill), the township holds Ezra Cooper, abt 1828, born NEW JERSEY, with wife Elizabeth, abt 1831, NEW JERSEY, and children Elizabeth A (1849 NJ), Jason (1851 NJ), Melisse (1857 Ill), William (1859 Ill), Jenette (1862 Ill), Benjamine (1863 Ill), Warren A (1866 Ill) and Otto (1868 Iowa). GREPPED BEFORE TREATING IT AS NEW, AND IT IS NOT NEW: that is Israel Ezra Cooper ISRAEL EZRA COOPER, 3 Mar 1826 Monmouth Co. NJ - 31 May 1888 Hopeville, Clarke Co., Iowa, whose wife is Elizabeth Y. Masters (1832-1900). He is not a son of John Cooper - his father is Justus J Cooper Justice J. Cooper - but he is in the [D.4] 1850 Independence Twp Cooper cluster, and his file already records the route NJ -> Stark Co., Illinois -> Clarke Co., Iowa. So three men out of that one 1850 Independence cluster moved west along the same corridor: Israel Ezra Cooper Israel Ezra and Joseph Cooper Joseph both reached Doyle Township, Clarke Co., Iowa, and Levi H. Cooper Levi H. went NJ -> Stark Co., Illinois -> Kansas. Two of them were neighbours in the same Iowa township in 1870. It states no kinship and none is claimed - but it is the kind of chain migration that makes the [J.232] "nephew" reading more comfortable, and it means Joseph did not go to Iowa alone or at random. AND IT ANSWERS THE QUESTION IT WAS RUN FOR. The only Elizabeth Coopers in the county are Ezra's wife (b. ~1831), Ezra's daughter Elizabeth A (b. ~1849) and Elizabeth H (b. ~1823 Kentucky, of Washington Twp, wife of Griffin Cooper). ⇒ There is NO Elizabeth Cooper of about 1819 anywhere in Clarke County in 1870. Joseph's wife that year is recorded as Catherine and as nobody else, so she was not enumerated separately under her own name - which is what the one-woman reading predicts and the "Catherine was a different household member" reading does not.findagrave 2026-10-03 · Joseph Cooper, b. 1817 +/- 2, d. 1893 +/- 1, Kansas (7 matches - location filter partly ignored).

The index image id is 007596347_00001 - DGS 7596347, the very reel this file recorded as padlocked. The complete list of Clarke County Cooper probates is six, and NONE is him: John James Cooper (6 Mar 1920), Isreal Cooper (16 Apr 1907), Griffith H. There is no Joseph Cooper at all - which is what should be expected, since he died at Stafford, Kansas in October 1893 and his estate belonged to that court, not this one. => Do not look for his probate in Clarke County again. What remains of the original open item is the deeds (he bought land in Clarke and Decatur Cos.) and the Iowa death record, neither touched here. The collection states it holds "approximately 45 percent of Kansas counties", and its browse menu lists 44. STAFFORD IS ABSENT. The name search agrees: no Joseph Cooper with a probate date of 1893-94 anywhere in the collection. The FamilySearch catalog was then checked for the same county, signed in, both with and without a subject filter (a subject token that does not bind returns a false zero): eight items for Stafford County, Kansas, and the complete subject list is Cemeteries (3), Census 1905/1915/1925 and History (2). No court, probate, land or vital records at all. => His Stafford County probate is not online anywhere, on either service. The FamilySearch wiki says the records exist - probate begins 1879, and "There is no known history of courthouse disasters in this county" - so this is a correspondence task, not a search task: Stafford County Courthouse, 209 N. Broadway Street, St. John, Kansas 67576-2042, or the Stafford County Historical and Genealogical Society, 100 N Main St, Stafford, KS 67578. One letter covers both estates, since Levi H. Cooper Levi died in the same county in 1909; the task is tracked as
t8 on his file. Why it is worth the letter: this man's father: p.113 is graded probable and rests on a bracket argument plus [J.232]'s nephew-and-niece sentence, with no document naming his father. An administration petition lists the heirs at law, and where an estate is contested or the heirs are scattered - his were, across Iowa and Kansas - siblings and their residences get named.familysearch records 2026-10-29 · FamilySearch Full-Text (the deed/probate image corpus, not the records index), signed in - never run for this man before. "Joseph Cooper" "Doyle Township", chosen because Doyle Township is distinctive and he is in it in the 1870 census. First page of collection lines read. (link)Result: NULL, and a WEAK one - read it as "nothing surfaced", not as "nothing exists". No Clarke County, Iowa document surfaced at all. The ranked hits are a different Doyle Township altogether - Barron Co., Wisconsin (its county history and biographies) - plus Grove Township, Shelby Co., Iowa public records, and Iowa birth and death ledgers of the 1880s-90s in which "Doyle Township" is simply a column value. Why the null is weak, and the reason is structural: the engine reported 115,751 results for a two-phrase query, so the phrases are being matched independently across the corpus rather than as a conjunction. A result set that large is a ranking, not a filter, and the first page of it is not evidence of absence. What it does establish is that Full-Text surfaces no obvious Clarke County instrument for him, which is consistent with this file's standing note that the Clarke Co. deeds are not in Full-Text. The deeds remain the open item; they were worked at index tier on a FamilySearch Center visit (see
